Jalen Hurts on Monday became the NFL’s highest paid quarterback and, well, that feels kind of stunning.
Because he’s not the NFL’s best quarterback.
The Eagles and Hurts on Monday completed negotiations on a five-year, $255 million extension. The $51 million per season annual average is the highest of any quarterback in the league. And the $179.3 million in guaranteed money is the third-highest guarantee for any player behind only Deshaun Watson and Kyler Murray.
So great job by Hurts. Great job by his agent Nicole Lynn.

For the first time in four weeks, it feels like the golf world can finally take a step back and take a breath. The last month on the PGA Tour felt like a marathon – an enjoyable one, if those exist – and crossing the finish line at the RBC Heritage was the perfect photo finish with Matt Fitzpatrick taking down Jordan Spieth in an epic three-hole playoff.
Speaking of epic, Scottie Scheffler showing some frustration at the expense of a bunker in Hilton Head was interesting to see simply because it proved that he is, in fact, a human.
Outside of Fitzpatrick picking up his second win on U.S.

Jalen Hurts became the highest-paid player in NFL history thanks to what he does inside the pocket
A year ago, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a pre-draft trade with the New Orleans Saints, with the Eagles sending New Orleans a pair of 2022 first-round selections (as well as a late-round pick) in exchange for a package of picks including the Saints’ 2023 first-round selection.
At the time, the move was viewed at least in part as a hedge on quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The block/charge call is long overdue for a change.
The NBA has many rules that need to be changed or removed altogether. For instance, the challenge rule — teams should get another challenge if their first one is successful. Currently, teams are penalized if they use their challenge early because no matter what, they don’t get a second challenge.
Another one: when offensive players run down the court and stop as a defender runs behind them, it draws a foul on the defender. The charge/block rule also needs an adjustment.

The Monday night NBA playoff schedule includes the 3-6 matchups in the Eastern and Western conferences, as the 76ers are set to host the Nets again and the Kings welcome back the Warriors.
Philadelphia and Sacramento both took 1–0 series leads over the weekend. Brooklyn lost, 121-101, at the Wells Fargo Center while Golden State fell in the final minute of the game at the Golden 1 Center, 126-123, in a raucous postseason atmosphere.

Jac Caglianone hit a grand salami on Sunday afternoon then gave a prickly umpire something to chew on.
During Florida’s game with rival Georgia, pitcher Brandon Neely pumped the guns after an inning-ending strikeout. He did so while walking towards his own dugout. Pretty routine stuff.
Then again, how dare he!
That was the reaction by the home plate ump who clearly didn’t stay in a Holiday Inn Express on Saturday evening.
Neely was tossed (check the video below) for showing some excitement and an inning later Caglianone epically trolled bad mood blue during a trip around the bags.

Ten days left, and we have a draft-heavy version of the Takeaways …
The trail of clues on the first pick in the draft keeps leading back to Bryce Young becoming a Panther. Last week, we mentioned the amount of time that the team brass spent with Young (and the time put in with Young’s parents), as well as Young’s S2 score—a 98, better than previous high scorers Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Justin Fields—and how owner David Tepper is said to be a believer in the cognitive test.
This week, there’s a smaller detail coming—Ohio State’s C.J.
