Cardinals rookie Jordan Walker added his name to the MLB history books Wednesday when he recorded a hit in his 12th consecutive game to start the 2023 season.
This is the first time a rookie under 21 years of age has accomplished this feat in over 100 years. The last MLB rookie in that age range to do so was the Philadelphia Athletics’ Eddie Murphy during the 1912 season. At age 20, Walker joined Murphy with the record of 12 consecutive games.
Walker was close to ending his streak, though, on Wednesday when the Cardinals beat the Rockies, 7–4.

Bryce Harper is eager to return to action for the Phillies following the offseason surgery which has kept him sidelined at the start of the 2023 season. The two-time NL MVP is hoping to beat his previously listed timeline in order to help Philadelphia during the first half of the regular season, and it seems he’s willing to take lofty measures to do so.
According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Harper intends to learn to play first base in hopes of making a faster return to the Phillies’ defense.

Red Sox right-hander Zack Kelly left Wednesday night’s game against the Rays in the fifth inning after appearing to suffer an elbow injury.
Kelly, who was relieving starting pitcher Chris Sale, threw a pitch to Rays designated hitter Yandy Diaz in the bottom of the fifth inning at Tropicana Field. The pitch hit Diaz, and Kelly covered his eyes and began crouching down on the mound while holding his right elbow as he appeared in pain.
Other Red Sox players and staff rushed to the mound to comfort Kelly as he broke out in tears.

Ex-teammates were at each other’s throats on NBA Twitter early Wednesday. Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma was trading barbs with Brooklyn Nets guard and former teammate Spencer Dinwiddie.
The two have an ongoing feud after Dinwiddie once characterized Kuzma as a selfish player on a losing team.
