Raiders running back Josh Jacobs will not report to the start of training camp this week as he looks to land an improved contract from the franchise.
With a potential holdout looming for Jacobs, the 25-year-old received some advice from a fellow running back with experience in holding out over a contract dispute, Melvin Gordon.
The former Chargers and Broncos running back made an appearance on Kay Adams’s show, Up & Adams. When the topic of Jacobs’s holdout was broached, Gordon explained what he would do if in Jacobs’s situation.
“I wouldn’t do it.

The indelible Kay Adams produced another fascinating piece of NFL content Tuesday, speaking with newly signed Baltimore Ravens running back, Melvin Gordon.
As a keen observer of the modern game, Adams knew to touch on the testy RB market currently ‘plaguing’ the league’s biggest runners.
Melvin Gordon Says He’d Play A Different Position, Based On Crumbling RB Market
She asked Gordon, 30, whether he’d pick a different position if he could restart his football career. Based on the sliding market, Gordon delivered a resounding ‘hell yes’ to the query.

Bronny James, an incoming freshman on USC’s basketball team and the son of NBA legend LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice Monday, according to a statement released by a James family spokesperson. As of Tuesday, James, 18, is out of the ICU and in stable condition, per the statement.
James committed to play for the Trojans in May, staying in Los Angeles after playing for Sierra Canyon in high school. He made a public appearance alongside his father and the rest of his family earlier in July at ESPN’s ESPY Awards.

It has been a rough start to the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the African nation of Zambia.
The team is ranked No. 77 in the world, so while it may have gone down to Australia and New Zealand knowing it had an uphill battle ahead of it, there’s no way the team expected this.
After just one game, the Zambian national team is already down to its third-string goalie.
Now, even if you’re not a soccer aficionado, you’re no doubt aware that goalkeeper is one of the most important positions in soccer. So, yes, this sort of thing is a bit of a problem.

USC guard Bronny James suffering a cardiac arrest during practice Monday was cause for concern across the basketball world as details of the event became public Tuesday.
However, the event was first and foremost a tragedy for the James family. As James’s father LeBron—the NBA’s all-time leading scorer—and mother Savannah thanked USC medical personnel for their timely response, the freshman’s younger brother Bryce expressed support for his brother on Instagram.

The Red Sox and utilityman Kiké Hernández are reportedly parting ways ahead of the 2023 MLB trade deadline.
According to reports from Ken Rosenthal and Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Hernández will be dealt to the Dodgers, reuniting him with the franchise where he’s played the bulk of his MLB career.
Boston’s return on the trade has not yet been reported.
Hernández spent six seasons in Los Angeles, from 2015 to ’20. He appeared in 648 games for the team during that span, registering a .737 OPS with 68 home runs.

The Australian Open has a rich history and is played on some of the world’s best courses. Now it is the time to elevate it to major status.
Last week, before The Open Championship, Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee made the case for The Players Championship becoming golf’s fifth major.

Northwestern football student-athlete representatives announced they have decided to forego attending Big Ten Media Day amid the hazing scandal discussion within the football program.
In a statement, linebacker Bryce Gallagher, defensive back Rod Heard II, and wide receiver Bryce Kirtz said they discussed the possibility of attending, but they believe it will be best to skip the day entirely.
“After talking with our parents, our teammates and Coach Braun, we have made the decision not to attend Big Ten Media Day,” the statement read.

A number of different storylines will play-out during Big Ten media days that start on Wednesday. But in terms of the Northwestern story overshadowing the event, Michigan and Jim Harbaugh grabbed that spotlight on Tuesday afternoon.
The biggest story in college football this off-season hasn’t centered around Ohio State looking to halt Michigan’s two-game winning streak. No, it’s not Luke Fickell or Matt Rhule entering the conference to the delight of both fanbases.

It hasn’t been too long since Nick Sirianni’s Eagles lost Super Bowl LVII. While you wouldn’t expect someone to get over a loss like that too quickly a new interview shows that coming just short of a Lombardi Trophy still eats away at — but also drives — the Birds‘ head coach.
NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Reuben Frank wrote a great piece that featured Sirianni discussing how he has been trying to unpack the gut-wrenching loss.
In the piece, Sirianni revealed that he gets so frustrated watching footage from the game that he lets the expletives fly like Cosmo Kramer at the dentist.
