ESPN’s broadcast of the 2023 Wimbledon tournament featured an unexpected guest on Wednesday. During the first-round clash between Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki and Tommy Paul of the United States, a spider could be seen making its way across the lens of one of the network’s cameras.
The eight-legged creature didn’t go unnoticed by the match’s commentary team. After Paul took a 5-3 lead in the first set, the broadcast team indicated the spider must be fond of his performance.
“Spidey liked that one,” joked one commentator.

John Berylson, the owner of Millwall F.C. in England’s Championship league, died Wednesday in an car crash in Falmouth, Mass. He was 70 years old.
According to police in Massachusetts, Berylson lost control of his 2019 Range Rover on a curved road in the Cape Cod town. The vehicle then overturned and fell into a ravine with Berylson still trapped inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Berylson, an avid sports fan, took control of the South London club in 2006.
Since San Antonio selected Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 pick in this year’s NBA draft, the anticipation to watch the French phenom in his first NBA game has become palpable.
The Spurs will open NBA Summer League action Friday against the Hornets at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo underwent an offseason procedure on his left knee, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
The report described the surgery as being a “cleanup procedure” for Antetokounmpo, but it could potentially cost him the chance to represent Greece at this summer’s FIBA World Cup. The 28-year-old previously played for the country at both the 2019 FIBA World Cup and at EuroBasket in 2022.

Ex-Florida quarterback Jalen Kitna agreed to a plea deal Wednesday in Gainesville, Fla., that resulted in the dismissal of five felony child pornography charges connected to his arrest in November.
Kitna pleaded no contest to two counts of disorderly conduct, both of which are second-degree misdemeanors. He was sentenced to one year of probation by Eighth Judicial Circuit Judge Susan Miller-Jones, but he will not face any jail time and will not be registered as a sex offender.
The NFL granted eligibility for Jackson State wide receiver Malachi Wideman and Purdue wideout Milton Wright to enter the NFL’s supplemental draft on Tuesday.
Wright and Wideman are the only two players who can be selected in this year’s draft, one that returns for the first time since 2019.
