On the morning of May 4, the Golden State Valkyries made history as their players and 70 staff were waking up in homes across the Bay Area.
CNBC released its annual WNBA franchise valuations, and on $78 million in 2025 revenue, the Valkyries became the first ever women’s sports team worth $1 billion. It was an enormous milestone for the industry, which came just over 30 months after Joe Lacob and Peter Guber paid a $50 million expansion fee in October 2023.

WWE
It feels like there’s a WWE PLE every time you blink nowadays. That might sound like one, but it isn’t actually a complaint. The more, the merrier from a fan’s point of view, but the dense scheduling isn’t doing much for events like last weekend’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. That was defunct pretty much as soon as it happened.
WWE/TKO might have to think about the future of SNME, but they’ll park that for now to focus on Clash In Italy this coming Sunday.

Five backroom staff members to leave City this summer
Manchester City can confirm the departures of five members of the Club’s backroom staff following the completion of the 2025/26 season.
Pep Lijnders, Kolo Toure, Lorenzo Buenaventura, Manel Estiarte and Xabi Mancisidor will all leave the Club.
Lijnders arrived last summer as assistant coach to Pep Guardiola and helped the Catalan as we lifted both the League Cup and FA Cup.

A debate is raging in college football on the question of whether to expand the playoff pool from 12 to 24 teams. And the battle lines are generally predictable.
Coaches want more teams. For coaches, qualifying for the playoffs becomes the best way to keep their jobs from one year to the next.
Broadcasters like ESPN want the status quo. More playoff teams will further undermine the bowl system, which is already diminished given the current size of the playoff field.
Among the conferences, the SEC has yet to embrace expansion.

The Pioneer Baseball League has, in simple terms, three new faces in its 12-team lineup for 2026: The Modesto (Calif.) Roadsters, the Long Beach (Calif.) Coast and the RedPocket Mobiles.
One of these is not like the other — the Mobiles don’t have a home ballpark and will be on the road for all of their 96 regular-season games — but those others continue a tradition nearly as old as the league itself, which dates to 1939.
