Tuchel explains England recall for Harry Maguire
Thomas Tuchel has explained his decision to recall Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to the England squad.
Maguire is part of the squad to take on Uruguay and Japan in friendly fixtures later this month. The centre-back has won 67 caps for England since his debut, but has not been capped by the national team since September 2024.
Maguire’s inclusion is the 33-year-old’s first involvement with the Three Lions since Tuchel took charge.

Attention is in order for the Washington Commanders, who on Thursday evening celebrated on social media the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, with a shout out to Eid al-Fitr. And that makes them perhaps the most conflicted NFL team lacking logical conviction on social media – which is saying a lot.
The Commanders wished everyone “Eid Mubarak,” which loosely translates to “blessed Eid” or “happy Eid,” as part of the Muslim holiday that began at sundown Thursday and will be celebrated throughout the day on Friday.

Aberdeen have confirmed the departure of three-time caretaker manager Peter Leven.
The 42-year-old former Kilmarnock and Milton Keynes Dons midfielder had been part of the coaching team at the Scottish Premiership club since 2023.
But he exits after his latest stint as interim boss ended with the appointment of Stephen Robinson as head coach and what the club say was “a full review of the coaching structure”.
Ian Burchnall, who joined Aberdeen in February, will remain as part of Robinson’s coaching team “at least until the summer”.

Manchester United are unwilling to enter into fresh negotiations with Barcelona regarding a permanent transfer for Marcus Rashford, the Press Association understands.
The Premier League club is understood to be holding firm on the existing terms of the forward’s loan agreement.
Rashford, 28, joined the La Liga champions following a period in United’s ‘bomb squad’ last summer for the 2025/26 season after spending the latter half of the previous campaign on loan at Aston Villa.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgium returns to surrealism ahead of the World Cup.
The Belgian soccer federation has unveiled the men’s new away shirt, and it’s a tribute to artist René Magritte and the nation’s surrealist heritage.
The multicolor light blue shirt features pink patterns and black detailing, incorporating soccer-inspired motifs such as pitch lines and a ball.
“True to the surrealism theme, the kit sparks the imagination and invites conversation,” the federation said.
