ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — MacKenzie Gore continued his home-field mastery this season with 6 1/3 shutout innings, Brandon Nimmo, Nicky Lopez and Joc Pederson homered, and the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 9-1 on Friday night.
Gore (4-4) allowed four hits and walked one. The left-hander is 3-0 in five starts this year at Globe Life Field with a 2.08 ERA. His 1-4 road record comes with a 5.81 ERA.
The Royals have lost four straight, 14 of their last 17, and fell a season-worst 13 games under .500.

NEW YORK (AP) — MJ Melendez hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to give the New York Mets a 9-7 victory over the Miami Marlins after squandering a four-run lead Friday night.
Mark Vientos launched a 445-foot homer for the last-place Mets, who have won two in a row following a five-game slide.
A.J. Ewing and Brett Baty each had a two-run single in the first against unbeaten Max Meyer, who blanked New York on one hit over seven innings last weekend in Miami to help the Marlins earn a three-game sweep.

NEW YORK (AP) — Bobby Valentine was just trying to keep things loose — and perhaps save his job — when he donned a makeshift disguise and returned to the New York Mets’ dugout after being ejected from a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 9, 1999.
It turned into a defining moment, maybe even the most memorable of his 40-plus years in baseball.

Blake Postler had endured his share of heartbreak and disappointment while competing at UW-La Crosse.
Postler finished second and third in hurdling events there while running in the Wisconsin state track meet.
Those near misses during his prep career at D.C. Everest provided plenty of fuel and motivation when he returned to the same venue to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships last week.
Postler ran the race of his life, breaking 50 seconds for the first time and capturing a national title for UW-Eau Claire in the 400-meter hurdles last Saturday.

CHICAGO (AP) — Nia Coffey scored 20 points and made six 3-pointers, rookie Olivia Miles had 17 points, six rebounds and six assists, and the Minnesota Lynx beat the Chicago Sky 79-58 on Friday night.
Coffey was 6 of 9 from behind the arc to finish with her most points since dropping 23 against Seattle on May 27, 2018. Coffey also grabbed eight rebounds.
Minnesota took over in the third quarter, outscoring the Sky 31-16 to take a 64-46 lead. Natasha Howard scored the opening six points of the third before Coffey made back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 12-0 run for a 45-30 lead.

OTTUMWA — Adeline Thompson has only hit a ball over an outfield fence one other time before Thursday night.
“I think that a couple falls ago when I was playing for my travel team,” Thompson said.
In just her ninth trip to the plate in three seasons as an Ottumwa High School softball varsity player, Thompson tested the limits of Frank Huston Field for the first time lifting a fly ball high in the air deep into left field. Thompson took off around the bases and didn’t realize until she got to second base just how far it went.

💪Top sparring picks: Scaloni’s 7️⃣ for the warm-up friendlies
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni finalized the list of 26 players who will compete at the 2026 World Cup. However, the manager surprised many by calling up seven additional players from the preliminary 55-man list for the friendlies on June 6 and 9 against Honduras and Iceland.

Youth, the present, and emergency options
The selected players are Santiago Beltrán, Agustín Giay, Nicolás Capaldo, Tomás Aranda, Ignacio Ovando, Joaquín Freitas, and Simón Escobar.
