San Francisco’s Trevor McDonald was perfect through the first three innings against the White Sox tonight. Trying to get through the lineup a second time proved to be impossible for the righty, as Chicago hung nine runs on the Giants and cruised to a 9-4 win.
It started with back-to-back hit batsmen to put Sam Antonacci and Munetaka Murakami on base.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Fantasy met reality for Wade Meckler in his debut for the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night when he hit a three-homer in the first inning and Mike Trout greeted him at home plate with a high-five.
“Yeah, it’s pretty surreal,” Meckler said after the Angels’ 9-6 victory over the Texas Rangers. “You grow up watching the guy on TV every day for 10 years, and all of a sudden he’s your teammate. It’s pretty cool.
Here’s what we’ve learned — and what’s next for the series.
Down 15-0 to the Spurs not even three minutes into Game 3 of the Western Conference finals on Friday night, Thunder coach Mark Daigneault went to his bench for the first time. And everything changed in an instant, a harbinger of what was to come.
PEORIA — The Notre Dame High School girls soccer team moved up into IHSA Class 3A competition this season, and on Friday they moved right on into a regional championship.
The Irish hammered Joliet West, 7-0, in the Class 3A Moline Regional title match at Browning Field.
It marked the first regional championship in 3A for the program.
Notre Dame (22-0) advances to the Normal Community Sectional semifinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday, where they will face the winner of the Minooka Regional title match between Minooka and East Moline.
PEARL — If ain’t broken, don’t fix it. That was Sumrall baseball coach Andy Davis’ philosophy during Game 2 of the MHSAA 5A championship series.
Starting pitcher Cooper McCoy threw a total of 97 pitches, and according to Davis, 90 were fastballs.
McCoy’s pitching plan helped Sumrall (34-6) to a 3-0 win over Pontotoc (21-15-1) to claim the 5A title in a 2-0 sweep on May 22 at Trustmark Park. The Bobcats won Game 1, 7-4, on May 19. The title marked Sumrall’s third in five years and first since 2024.

PHOENIX (AP) — Chad Stevens hit a go-ahead single in the ninth inning after T.J. Rumfield’s RBI double in the eighth tied it and the Colorado Rockies rallied past the Arizona Diamondbacks for a 3-2 win on Friday night.
It was the first hit of the season for Stevens, who was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. The 27-year-old connected off Ryan Thompson (2-1), lofting a single into shallow right field that scored fellow rookie Sterlin Thompson, who started the rally with a double.
Antonio Senzatela (4-0) pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win.
Victor Wembanyama knows this is just part of his NBA education. For the first time since coming to San Antonio, he and the Spurs are trailing in a playoff series.
He hopes they’ll be quick studies.
The Spurs trail the Western Conference finals 2-1, after falling 123-108 to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night. It was San Antonio’s second consecutive loss after winning Game 1 in a double-overtime classic.
And when Game 3 was done, Wembanyama — as he tends to do, even as a 22-year-old in his first playoff run — summed up the moment perfectly.
“It’s my first playoffs.
