Seconds passed, and Atlanta Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jorge Soler continued staring at each other down.
Lopez finally opened his arms and appeared to say something.
Whatever was said Tuesday night, Soler objected and charged the pitching mound, throwing several punches.

Unlike many confrontations described as brawls in MLB, hands were thrown in Tuesday’s game between the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels.
A fight broke out in the fifth inning between Braves pitcher Reynaldo López and Angels designated hitter Jorge Soler, triggering a full clearing of the benches and bullpens. Tension had been brewing throughout the game, with Soler hitting a two-run homer in the first inning then getting hit by a 96 mph fastball in the third.
Tensions boiled over when López threw a high fastball during Soler’s third plate appearance.
Welcome to the 2026 Transfer Portal season.
The portal is officially open and the information is about to start flowing.
We’ve got an amended roster count, and it’s a lot lighter than it was just a few days ago. That isn’t a surprise, the portal is easy to get into. For players, coaches, and fans. Here’s where the roster stands (I’ll do my best to keep this part updated:
UPDATE TUESDAY APRIL 7 | It was a busy day for players going into the portal, but a slow news day overall for the Tigers.

The league’s best offense decided to take the night off as Astros pitching, defense continue to struggle.
There’s an interesting case for the San Francisco 49ers to make a trade back from the No. 27 overall pick. Longtime 49ers insider Matt Maiocco from NBC Sports Bay Area proposed a trade back scenario for San Francisco that involves dealing with an NFC West rival.
Maiocco’s trade is simple. The 49ers send the No. 27 overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for the No. 34 pick in the second round, the No. 104 pick in the fourth round and the No. 143 pick in the fifth round.

The Kentucky Wildcats are in full go mode as the transfer portal opened Tuesday at midnight. Mark Pope and staff have been reported to be interested in a number of guys already, but G-League star Dink Pate has been in Pope’s sight for a while now.
BOSTON (AP) — Jaylen Brown had 35 points and nine rebounds, and the Boston Celtics outlasted the Charlotte Hornets 113-102 on Tuesday night.
Brown has scored 26 or more points in his last 10 games. Jayson Tatum added 23 points and has had at least 20 in each of his last six games. Both played the entire fourth quarter.
With the win, the Celtics inched closer to locking up the No. 2 playoff seed in the Eastern Conference. It also gave Boston a 2-1 win in the season series with the Hornets, who could potentially be its first-round opponent.
Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Alex Freeland (76) reacts after hitting a double against the Toronto Blue Jays in the seventh inning at Rogers Centre.
TORONTO — The boos came early for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, echoing throughout Rogers Centre before he even delivered a pitch. Blue Jays fans hadn’t forgotten October — not the cold, clinical dominance of Game 7 of the World Series, when Yamamoto authored a performance that still lingers here like a bruise.
But if Tuesday night proved anything, it’s that memory doesn’t rattle him. It sharpens him.
OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Jake Sanderson scored a pair of goals and the Ottawa Senators were closer to a playoff appearance with a 6-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
Jordan Spence, Fabian Zetterlund, Tim Stutzle and Shane Pinto also scored for Ottawa. Brady Tkachuk had four assists and goaltender Linus Ullmark made 28 saves for the win.
Nick Paul and Corey Perry scored for the Lightning. Jonas Johansson made 26 saves.
Tied 1-1 to start the third, the Senators scored twice in less than two minutes to take a two-goal lead.

Taj Bradley and Tarik Skubal traded scoreless innings tonight, until the Twins broke through in the 5th. After a pair of 1-out walks by Byron Buxton and Austin Martin, Luke Keaschall singled up the middle for the first run. Then, Ryan Jeffers doubled down the right field line, scoring 2 more runs.
