The Phillies star staked Team USA to an early lead in the WBC championship game.
Trea Turner is at it again.
In the top of the second inning of the World Baseball Classic championship game against Japan on Tuesday night, the dynamic shortstop tied the WBC tournament home run record when he crushed a 2-1 pitch from Shota Imanaga over the left-field wall at loanDepot Park in Miami.
Turner’s five home runs in this year’s World Baseball Classic ties South Korea’s Lee Seung-yuop’s mark set in the inaugural tournament in 2006.

Arch Manning might be the golden child, but his hopes of starting at Texas as a true freshman are slim. It’s not to say that he couldn’t play his way into the QB1 spot. It’s just unlikely and it always has been.
Manning, the No. 1 overall prospect in the Class of 2023, chose to forgo the second semester of his senior year of high school and enroll early in Austin. The move, which is becoming increasingly common within the sport, allows him to get on campus and get a feel for college life before the fall semester hits and football season kicks into gear.

MLB’s commissioner said while the timer’s basic structure will remain in place, some “common sense” issues will be addressed.
The World Baseball Classic is locked in for another edition in 2026—heading for another March setting—while some “minor clarifications” to the MLB pitch timer rules will be announced this week, baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said before the WBC championship game Tuesday night.
Baseball’s Competition Committee has been reviewing the new rules this season as it sees them implemented through spring training games.

The Knicks legend, who died Tuesday at 80, played out his entire 10-year career in New York and brought the franchise its only two titles.
Throughout the history of the league, very few NBA stars come to mind when thinking of championship-level greatness, personified, while playing for a single franchise. The list is comprised of guys that only need one name mentioned: Russell. Magic. Bird. Isiah. Kobe. Duncan. Dirk. Perhaps Steph and Giannis, assuming they stay put for the rest of their careers.
But in filing off those one-team-only champs, it’d be an enormous mistake to leave off Willis.

The ban comes after the fan stormed the pitch and assaulted an opposing goalkeeper during a Europa League match in February.
A fan who stormed the field during a Europa League match between PSV Eindhoven and Sevilla has been issued a 40-year ban from PSV’s Philips Stadium, the team announced Tuesday.
The fan interrupted play during the Feb. 23 match and attempted to punch Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic. He ended up being pinned down to the ground by Dmitrovic and eventually was escorted off the premises by security.

Turns out former Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey is not headed to South Florida, after all.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Brey interviewed at USF, but they didn’t offer him the job. So he’s doing what any self-respecting former coach would do in this position: He’s looking for a TV job.

Notre Dame coach Mike Brey tells ESPN he interviewed for USF, but was not offered the job. He said he’s going to take some time off and pursue television.

Colorado is locking up the winningest coach in team history for three more seasons.
The defending Stanley Cup-champion Colorado Avalanche announced on Tuesday they have reached an agreement on a contract extension for coach Jared Bednar.
The deal will keep Bednar behind the bench as the leader of the Avs through the 2026-27 season.
After failing to make it beyond the second round of the playoffs in his first five seasons at the helm, Bednar led Colorado to its third Stanley Cup in team history in 2022.

Leupepe, a name that most college basketball fans may not know, has grown a cult-like following over the last few seasons. West Coast Conference viewers have been treated to the Australia-native’s game — and glorious look — since 2019.

The two Patriots legends played together for eight seasons.
Dont’a Hightower’s retirement announcement on Tuesday meant another member of the Patriots dynasty is stepping away from the game. Hightower was a key member of three Super Bowl-winning rosters. He was named to two Pro Bowl squads and received second-team All-Pro recognition once during his decade-log NFL career.
As the NFL world is congratulating Hightower on a great career, his most famous former teammate also weighed in.
