Folks, we’ve made it through the dark times… the NHL is officially back today.
Sure, we had the preseason and a couple of games in Prague to get things started, but we’ve got a legitimate slate of games on Tuesday evening and, as it always does, it feels like Christmas morning, spiced up with a couple of birthdays.
There will be plenty of storylines to watch this season.

Sports reporter Emma Vigeland wants you to believe that the New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh in part because he wore a Lebanon arm patch during this past Sunday’s game.
Vigeland, who has Free Palestine in her Twitter bio, conveniently left out the fact that Saleh has been wearing the Lebanese arm band for the last TWO SEASONS and has publicly spoken about his Lebanese-American heritage after being born in Michigan after his parents immigrated here.
Facts matter, Emma.

Keegan Bradley unveiled the system the Americans will use to determine its team for the 2025 Ryder Cup, which includes one notable difference.
NEW YORK — Keegan Bradley, together with the PGA of America, unveiled Team USA’s selection criteria for the 2025 Ryder Cup. The process is similar to the one used in 2023, when the Europeans trounced the Americans in Rome.
However, one notable difference stands out: Major champions will not receive bonus points for winning in 2025.

One of the big questions facing the WNBA once Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever were eliminated from the playoffs was how much TV viewership might sink.
However, the league has to be happy with what it has seen so far in the semifinals.
Of course, ratings are down without Clark. That was always a given. But they are up big over last season. Much of that can be attributed to how many new fans Clark attracted to the WNBA in the first place.
But many people, myself included, expected almost all of those people to stop watching once her season ended. They haven’t, though.

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, on a conference call with local and national media Tuesday afternoon, made the case that the Jets are better off without fired coach Robert Saleh.
Johnson has been considering Saleh’s status every one of the four seasons while Saleh delivered a 20-36 record, and that whole picture came into play even as the Jets have suffered two consecutive losses this season.
“It’s not the last two games that precipitated this decision,” Johnson said. “It’s a longer time frame.

This is the weekend of college football matchups we’ve been all waiting for. On today’s show Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger and SI’s Pat Forde preview the two biggest games of Week 7: Oregon vs. Ohio State and Texas vs. Oklahoma. They discuss the storylines for all four teams, including potential high pressure situations for Ohio State coach Ryan Day and Oklahoma coach Brent Venables.

Tiafoe dropped multiple F bombs into a hot mic after a close loss.
American tennis star Frances Tiafoe enjoyed a strong run of form during the summer schedule. Tiafoe reached the final at the Cincinnati Open, losing to Jannik Sinner, this year’s winner at both the Australian Open and the U.S. Open and current world No. 1. Tiafoe then reached the semis at the U.S. Open, losing in five sets to fellow American Taylor Fritz.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert was the hero on Sunday when he scored the game-winning touchdown with just seconds on the clock on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and now the man who signs his checks — Cowboys owner Jerry Jones — is addressing the injury that Tolbert was apparently playing with at the time, a case of “sprained nuts.”
I’m not sure if that’s what it’s called in medical literature, but it still gets the point across.
Tolbert had this TD reception late to give the Cowboys a massive road win.
