Sammy Smith became the fourth-youngest driver to win an Xfinity Series race when he took the checkered flag at Phoenix Raceway on Saturday.
Smith, an 18-year-old who is still enrolled in high school, held off Kyle Busch and Ryan Truex to claim his first Xfinity Series victory.
“It’s amazing. It’s a dream come true,” Smith said, via the Associated Press. “It’s awesome.”
Smith has been with Joe Gibbs Racing for the past two years, making 13 starts in that span.

The Shockers have dismissed Brown after three seasons.
Wichita State has fired men’s basketball coach Isaac Brown, the school announced Saturday.
Brown went 48-34 in three seasons at the helm of the Shockers program. He took over as Wichita State’s head coach in November 2020 when predecessor Gregg Marshall resigned following allegations of abuse. Brown had joined the Shockers as an assistant under Marshall prior to the 2014-15 season.

Jameis Winston is forever a legend in Tallahassee and his little brother may soon follow in his footsteps. Jonah, a Class of 2026 recruit, received a scholarship offer from Florida State and head coach Mike Norvell over the wekened.
Jameis, who won a national title with the Seminoles in 2013, was offered a restructured deal to stay with New Orleans in 2023 and beyond. He will have until Wednesday to accept the contract or he will be released.
As the 29-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner decides on his future, he returned to his alma mater.

The entire NFL world is waiting to see what Aaron Rodgers will do next season, as it appears the superstar quarterback is choosing between retirement, returning to the Packers or agreeing to be traded to the Jets.
While the waiting continues, Rodgers held a celebrity flag football game for charity in Southern California on Saturday. Former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall was in attendance, and he corralled Rodgers for a brief interview.

Texas Southern, which had just nine Division-I wins in 2022/23, finished the regular season at 11-20. It somehow beat Arizona State back in November, but got obliterated by Oral Roberts, Houston, Auburn and Kansas in four of its next five games.
Two of its wins included Huston-Tillotson and North American. Who? Exactly.

The Japanese superstar put on a show in front of his home fans in Tokyo.
No player is likely to receive more attention in this year’s World Baseball Classic than Shohei Ohtani, especially in his native Japan. The two-way superstar last played in front of his home fans in 2017, and he has not disappointed thus far.
Ohtani showed off his pitching skills in Team Japan’s opener Thursday, allowing just one hit in four shutout innings in an 8-1 win over China. Now, he’s produced an offensive highlight to match.
