How do the Falcons’, Lions’ draft plans change with the Jeff Okudah trade?
With the long and winding road to the 2023 NFL Draft coming to a close, we in the football media are starting to fire off some of our hottest takes. Whether it is the idea that Will Anderson Jr. is not one of the top pass rushers in the class to Hendon Hooker as potentially QB1, there is an overwhelming sentiment that the draft itself just needs to get here.
Thankfully, we do have some actual news to discuss.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will try to win their first playoff series since 2004 when the Stanley Cup Playoffs get underway next week. As the regular season winds down, though, they’re dealing with one hell of a goalie dilemma.
For most of the year, the Leafs used a tandem of Ilya Samsonov and two-time Stanley Cup champ Matt Murray. Samsonov handled most of the work, starting 42 games to Murray’s 26. However, last week, Murray sustained a head injury and hasn’t been on the ice since.
Unfortunate, for sure, but teams deal with this all the time.

The Lynx dynasty is shifting its attention to its next ring, even if it may take some time (and pressure) to materialize. The only question now is how many carats the diamond will be.
Minnesota selected Diamond Miller with the second pick in the 2023 WNBA draft, bringing the guard out of Maryland into a franchise best known for winning four championships in seven seasons (’11, ’13, ’15, ’17). Miller was, alongside No.

The Falcons are acquiring cornerback Jeff Okudah in a trade with the Lions, per ESPN’s Field Yates. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Detroit is receiving a 2023 fifth-round pick in exchange for Okudah.
The 24 year old was the No. 3 pick in the 2020 draft and had spent the past three seasons in Detroit.

While Premier League teams playing friendlies in the United States is nothing new, the six-team Summer Series headed to the U.S. in July is a first. Chelsea and Newcastle are the two marquee names that headline the six-team series that will participate in the preseason tournament.
Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion will square off in the opening Summer Series game at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on July 22. Brentford and Fulham will then face off with Newcastle taking on Aston Villa at the same venue on the 23rd.

The 1995 season is magical for many ways, but none of it was possible without opening day
It’s April 25th, 1995. The Los Angeles Dodgers are visiting the Florida Marlins for an MLB opening day unlike any other. While the Marlins have stormed back, forcing this game to come down to the final at bat, the moment is bigger than what a single pitch could represent.
Two World Wars didn’t cancel MLB’s World Series, but in 1994, a labor dispute between owners and players over a potential salary cap killed the Fall Classic – and a pretty compelling season.

Cornerback Greg Newsome has provided the Browns with a pair of solid seasons since Cleveland took him 26th overall in the 2021 draft.
However, the Browns secondary has become more crowded recently, particularly with the offseason addition of safety Juan Thornhill. This has invited trade speculation around Newsome—speculation he shut down in a memorable tweet Tuesday morning.
Citing a source, Brad Stainbrook of 247Sports reported Tuesday morning that Newsome wanted a trade.

Among the resources I tap into before e-filing my annual MVP ballot are those charged with scheming to stop the contenders. With only so many games you can watch, stats you can pore over and advanced analytics you can dig up, I find it useful to crowdsource opinions from professionals. So, with a week or so remaining in the regular season, I fire off text messages to a group of assistant coaches, video coordinators and scouts I frequently communicate with. Of the 23 responses I got this year, no player received double-digit endorsements.
