Two of the most dominant pitchers in Vanderbilt baseball history are back together on the Major League Baseball level, kind of. Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker, though on different levels, are both in the Texas Rangers organization after leading the Commodores’ staff in 2020-21.

Jack Leiter is on the Double-A level.
Leiter, son of Al, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. He went 13-4 with a sub-two ERA in college and rung up 201 of his 690 batters face along the way.

It’s not uncommon for former NFL quarterbacks to thrive in the broadcast booth. It is, however, not common practice to start your broadcasting career while you’re still a player.
Cardinals likely starting quarterback Colt McCoy is going to be one of NBC’s color analysts during USFL telecasts this season—with the season starting this week.
“I’ve never really called a live game but I have done a lot of behind-the-scenes work,” McCoy told azcardinals.com Wednesday. “I’ve enjoyed that process. I love the game.

After leaving in the fifth inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Rays in tears following an apparent elbow injury, the Red Sox have placed reliever Zack Kelly on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
The Red Sox recalled right-hander Kutter Crawford from Triple-A Worcester to take Kelly’s spot on the active roster.
Kelly was called upon Wednesday night to replace starter Chris Sale. But after two-thirds of an inning, he went down holding his right elbow in pain after hitting Rays designated hitter Yandy Diaz with a pitch.

Bayern Munich has suspended star forward Sadio Mané for the club’s upcoming Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim after reports emerged of an altercation with teammate Leroy Sané following Tuesday’s 3–0 Champions League loss to Manchester City.
German outlet Bild previously reported Mané had struck Sané in the face following an argument in the dressing room after the quarterfinal first leg, with Mané reportedly unhappy with how his teammate had addressed him. The duo could also be seen arguing on the field at the end of the match after Mané came on as a second-half substitute.

Time released its list of the top 100 influential people for 2023 on Thursday and divided them into several categories that include artists, icons, pioneers, leaders, titans and innovators. Six athletes made the cut, including the WNBA’s Brittney Griner, who was listed in the icons category.
For each person listed, a peer wrote a short blurb in their honor. For Griner, Sue Bird described Griner’s impact and what she has meant to women in sports.
“Brittney Griner’s story represents so much,” Bird wrote. “First off, it’s about resilience.

Thursday night’s Flyers-Blackhawks game was going to be the type of “who care’s?” game you often get at the end of any regular season. However, hours before puck drop, the Blackhawks announced that they would not be re-signing captain Jonathan Toews, giving the otherwise meaningless game some weight.
The team announced the news on Twitter with a statement from GM Kyle Davidson.

Tonight will be Jonathan Toews’ last game as a Blackhawk pic.twitter.

1. “I’ve always wanted to ask you this. Why did you throw the soup?”
That was JJ Redick to J.R. Smith on the latest edition of Redick’s The Old Man and the Three podcast.
I’ve been writing a daily online column since 2007 and one of my all-time favorite stories ever came in ’18 when then Cavaliers forward J.R. Smith was suspended after he threw soup on assistant coach Damon Jones.
Smith explained to Redick what happened on that day.

“Damon Jones is my guy,” said Smith. “I love DJones. Everybody knows. But he has a knack for playing too much.

Lane Kiffin is not one to mince his words. The 47-year-old may not be as old as some of his SEC or college football counterparts, but he has lived a lot of life and no longer tries to be someone he is not.
Although Kiffin isn’t afraid to speak his mind, he tries to focus on the positive. Even when he’s pissed.
Auburn fired Bryan Harsin on Halloween last fall. Kiffin was linked to the job on The Plains as soon as he was let go. He was the Tigers’ top target.
Kiffin ultimately ended up staying at Ole Miss, but not before a report stated that his move to Auburn was imminent.
