The 2024 season has made it abundantly clear that, despite how much credit they get when things go right, managers don’t matter much in Major League Baseball.
Perhaps the best example comes from the Chicago Cubs and new manager Craig Counsell. Counsell had been widely regarded as one of the best managers in the sport, thanks to a successful tenure with the Milwaukee Brewers. Every year, the Brewers seemed to over-perform expectations, with much of the credit given to Counsell’s leadership and in-game management.

Los Angeles Lakers legend James Worthy continues to be critical of his former team’s plans for the future.
Worthy made headlines this week for his hot-mic comments, in which he poked fun at the front office’s dysfunction, also throwing an elbow at their rumored interest in Bronny James, LeBron James’ son.
The comments, shared by LakersDaily, came from a recent interview with Worthy on the Lakers’ state.
For years, Worthy has been stuck in basketball hell as he watches the Lakers’ oblivious management sabotage the franchise.

The NHL must be breathing a sigh of relief after the Edmonton Oilers gave us a series when it looked like the Florida Panthers would make short work of them, and that’s reflected in some big numbers for Monday night’s Game 7 that saw the Panthers avoiding the choke to end all chokes and winning the Stanley Cup.
The numbers are in and according to the league, the 16.3 million viewers from across North America who tuned into the game is the second most since 2004.

You don’t see this scene in baseball often, outside of your uncle’s adult rec league games. Cincinnati Reds ace Hunter Greene, pitching against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, puked after delivering a pitch on the mound in a bizarre scene made for an “Eastbound & Down” episode.
After throwing his seventh pitch of the game, facing Bryan Reynolds with no outs in the first, Hunter Greene abruptly threw up, prompting a surprised look from Reynolds.
Greene shook off the gross moment, also tallied as a ball, before the thousands of home fans in Cincy.
