TUSCALOOSA — In March, college basketball typically dominates the sporting news cycle. Alabama has been one of the top programs in the NCAA Tournament over the past few seasons, reaching its first Final Four in school history in 2024.

Houston and Gonzaga met in a second-round NCAA Tournament matchup last weekend in Wichita, Kansas, that could as easily have been played in the Final Four, the way Kelvin Sampson’s and Mark Few’s teams had played throughout the season.
The Cougars were No. 1 in scoring defense, more than a half-point better than the next-best team. The Bulldogs were No. 2 in scoring offense, trailing only Alabama in putting up nearly 87 points per game.

The transfer portal is open for college basketball despite the NCAA Tournament still ongoing. On Monday, Luke Northweather and Yaya Keita entered the portal, and now the Sooners have lost another forward. Former four-star prospect Jacolb Fredson-Cole has filed paperwork to enter the transfer portal, according to reports.
Fredson-Cole was a four-star player in the 247Sports composite and considered the No. 103 player in the nation coming out of high school. However, he never got on track with the Sooners, playing in just 15 games for the Sooners and averaging just 4.6 minutes per game.

One of the biggest talking points following the first weekend of the 2025 Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament surrounds all remaining teams hailing from Power 5 Conferences.
The entire Sweet 16 comprises four conferences: the SEC (seven teams), Big Ten (four), Big 12 (four), and ACC (Duke). That’s led many people to ask: is the transfer portal and NIL killing the opportunity for “Cinderella teams” to make runs in the NCAA Tournament?
The lowest-seeded team remaining is #10 Arkansas. However, the Razorbacks are an SEC school coached by John Calipari.

These guys might not get drafted early, but have a chance to make an instant impact.
The 2025 NFL Draft is one that many pundits agree might not have the top end talent of previous years, but due to NIL and the transfer portal keeping guys in college football longer, the depth in this draft might be better than previous years. That means this year there’s going to be more guys that get drafted late who have a chance to make an instant impact from round four and beyond.

Hailey Van Lith is in the midst of her fifth season of college basketball, but given her abilities and playing style on the hardwood, she was thrust into the national spotlight years before her collegiate career began. Like many young adults, especially those under the sports world’s microscope, Van Lith was faced with a fair share of struggles, and recently shared that she was suicidal early on in her college career.
