Donald Trump made history on Sunday afternoon simply by being a fan of NASCAR.
The Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC hosted the Coca Cola 600 over the weekend, which is one of the biggest racing events in the sport’s calendar. But today’s event held a little extra significance thanks to the appearance of the 45th president.
Trump flew into Charlotte to watch the race, and in doing so became the first Commander-in-Chief – past or current – to attend the race.
Upon arriving, he waved to the crowd, who roared in applause.

Riley stayed strong on Sunday to defeat World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by five strokes and win the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Not only did Davis Riley hold off World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to win the Charles Schwab Challenge, he won the event by five shots.
Scheffler struggled off the tee throughout the fourth round, so he could not challenge Riley much. The 27-year-old did not play his best golf but avoided massive disasters.
Riley carded an even-par 70 round on Sunday to finish at 14-under overall. He made four bogeys and four birdies on his day.
Sunday’s game between the Red Sox and Brewers featured seventh-inning, bench-clearing action after a pitcher and coach got tangled up in a dispute.
Red Sox pitcher Chris Martin had words for Brewers first base coach Quintin Berry, setting off a heated altercation. In the footage, Berry looked incensed based on something Chris Martin uttered under his breath. The Boston pitcher plainly admitted that he may have thrown unsavory comments.
Players from both dugouts poured in, and the two sides were separated, with (surprisingly) no punches thrown.

Tyrese Haliburton was ruled out for Game 3 vs. the Celtics with another hamstring strain, leaving his availability for the Pacers during the rest of the NBA playoffs very much in doubt.
Tyrese Haliburton exited the Indiana Pacers’ Game 2 loss to the Boston Celtics with at least his second hamstring injury of the season, and there is now increasing doubt as to whether or not he will be able to return at all during the NBA Playoffs.
P. K. Subban has a knack for dressing well for his appearances on ESPN’s hockey broadcasts. But Sunday afternoon, his attempt to look dapper completely backfired.
ESPN’s crew was in the studio providing coverage of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Florida Panthers and the New York Rangers. For the occasion, Subban wore a tan plaid outfit to work. By his standards, that was a fairly tame choice of attire.
But the producers for ESPN decided to have some fun at Subban’s expense because of his clothing.
AEW “Double or Nothing” takes place Sunday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. There are 10 matches on the card, including seven championship contests.
Superstars can be made in the regular season, but legends are born in the playoffs. Barclay Goodrow, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning, is trying to write himself into New York Rangers lore.
Winning in Tampa Bay is cool, but winning for the New York Rangers is on another level. If you don’t believe me, just go to a playoff game at Madison Square Garden, and you’ll see what I mean.
The Rangers put up a terrible performance in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final against the Florida Panthers, getting shutout in front of the Garden crowd.
I don’t know what is going on but for some reason, first laps are hard today. They’re always hard given how bunched up the field is, but first the Monaco Grand Prix, and now the Indianapolis 500 have seen multiple cars retire after just a couple of corners.
The NASCAR Cup Series drivers need to tip-toe on the opening lap of the Coca-Cola 600 later Sunday.
The Indy 500 got underway four hours late thanks to a weather delay, and while everyone was fired up to finally see some racing, it didn’t take long before we had to press pause yet again.
