For decades—actually, for generations—the Detroit Lions were the example of how to do everything wrong in the NFL.
In a league built to avoid dynasties and disasters, the Lions were the latter. From 1958 to 2022, Detroit won a single playoff game. The Motown Kitties constantly hired the wrong people, refused to fire them quickly enough to save themselves from a deeper hole, and then threw the next hire into the pit.
Suddenly, that’s all changing.

Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta completely shut down a rumor Thursday that his team had reached out to the San Francisco 49ers to see whether star wide receiver Deebo Samuel was available for a trade—and he did so with a perfect one-liner.
“I read The Lorax last week at a local elementary school, and I would probably put that report similar to that,” DeCosta told media members at a Thursday press conference.
The Lorax, of course, is a fictional children’s book. So, it appears DeCosta didn’t think much of the report from Jason La Canfora of 105.7 The Fan.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers took to social media Thursday morning to deny reports that he had endorsed conspiracy theories related to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in the past.
“As I’m on the record saying in the past, what happened in Sandy Hook was an absolute tragedy. I am not and have never been of the opinion that the events did not take place,” Rodgers said. “Again, I hope that we learn from this and other tragedies to identify the signs that will allow us to prevent unnecessary loss of life.

Vanderbilt is expected to part ways with head coach Jerry Stackhouse, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reports.
Stackhouse, the former 18-year NBA veteran, has coached the Commodores since 2019, spending five full seasons at the helm. Under Stackhouse, Vanderbilt failed to make the NCAA tournament and went 70–92 overall and 28–60 in SEC play.
Last season, Vanderbilt had its best year with Stackhouse, accumulating a 22–15 record for its second straight winning season. This year, however, the Commodores took a major step back, going 9–23 in the program’s worst season under Stackhouse.

Coby White attacked the summer to level up for the Chicago Bulls.
Weeks after Coby White realized his dream of being selected in the 2019 NBA Draft, he returned to his North Carolina roots at the behest of his first pro mentor. It was only a few years earlier that White had starred for Chris Paul’s grassroots club, Team CP3, on the Nike EYBL circuit. Now Paul had invited White to his Elite Guard camp for top high school prospects in Winston-Salem as an NBA player the next crop of rising prep stars would measure up against.

College basketball is awesome and I love the NCAA Tournament. But, there is one extremely frustrating aspect to watching and betting on the sport. Teams make so many mistakes, particularly at the end of games. I joined former college basketball coach and OutKick host, Dan Dakich, to talk about those mistakes.
For me, one of the most mismanaged end-of-game scenarios comes when a team is trailing with less than one minute to go, and they don’t have possession. In this situation, teams are almost always content to play defense and let the leading team run out the entire shot clock.

Joel Embiid hasn’t played in a game since January as he recovers from a meniscus injury in his left knee, but the timetable for his return is getting closer. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark reports the Philadelphia 76ers expect their star center back in action by the first or second week in April, which would allow the reigning MVP to finish the regular season.
Embiid was diagnosed with a torn meniscus in early February, sidelining the center indefinitely. Before his injury, Embiid played in 34 games for Philadelphia and averaged 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 5.

A day after the start of the NFL’s new league year, two of its teams appear already to be in hot water.
The league is looking into allegations of tampering against the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles, according to a Thursday morning report from Dan Graziano of ESPN.
Per Graziano, the allegations are related to the Falcons’ and Eagles’ respective signings of quarterback Kirk Cousins and running back Saquon Barkley.
