NHL legend Jaromir Jagr — who is still an active pro hockey player in his native Czechia at the age of 52 — is in Pittsburgh to see his iconic No. 68 raised to the rafters inside of PPG Paints Arena.
It’s a fitting honor for Jagr, who started his NHL career with the Penguins in the early 1990s and had his best seasons there.
What is funny is that he has to get back to Czachia rather quickly to suit up for the Kladno Knights, his hometown team that he plays for and owns.

The Pac-12 Conference is effectively dead, with just two schools retaining control of decision-making.
And Oregon State and Washington State have, unsurprisingly, decided they’d like new leadership directing their very uncertain future. The two schools have parted ways with commissioner George Kliavkoff, whose tenure will conclude at the end of February.
Kliavkoff was hired in July 2021 with a mandate to secure the Pac-12 a new media rights deal, ensuring the conference’s survival into the future. He did not secure a new media rights deal for the Pac-12 Conference.

Steph Curry isn’t taking WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu lightly ahead of the Stephen vs. Sabrina Three-Point Challenge competition on Saturday night, but the NBA’s greatest shooter of all-time also has a great deal of confidence in himself.
The Golden State Warriors star gave a matter-of-fact answer when asked to predict how he’ll fare in the contest.
“There’s only one outcome,” Curry said during an interview on NBA TV. “It’s that I win.”

“There’s only one outcome, it’s that I win.

Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark is hands down the best female college basketball player in the nation, and everyone else is competing for second place.
She can shoot from anywhere, score in any way, against whoever she plays against. Clark is one of the sport’s most transcendent players at any level, on the men’s or women’s side.
Oh, she also happens to be the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball as of Thursday night. She passed Kelsey Plum’s mark of 3,527 points with a three-pointer from just beyond the logo against Michigan.

LOS ANGELES—Tiger Woods issued a statement Saturday afternoon, saying the flu was his reason for withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational on Friday.
Woods, the tournament host, was making his 2024 debut at Riviera Country Club and his first official start since withdrawing from the Masters last April.
Given his numerous health-related issues in recent years, including back problems associated with spinal fusion surgery and leg injuries sustained during a car crash, there was initially concern that his exit was due to one of those issues.

During his press conference Saturday ahead of the 2024 NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis, Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant was asked to share his go-to line when “sliding into somebody’s DMs” on social media.
Only at NBA All-Star weekend.
“Who gave this guy a mic?” Durant said while laughing. “Say that again?”
“If you’re trying to slide into someone’s DMs, what’s your line?” the reporter asked.
“‘Hi,’” Durant responded. “That’s it.”

Kevin Durant: “Who gave this guy a mic?”
Reporter: “You’re trying to slide into someone’s DM’s.

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is coming through in a big way for animal shelters, as the 3-time All-Star has pledged to donate $1,000 for every home run he hits this coming season.
I think you can all agree with me when I say that I hope Alonso breaks the damn Home-Run single-season record!
“The Alonso Foundation and I are going to be donating $1,000 per home run to animal rescues.

The NBA has never been afraid to make rule changes to improve the game, as each year it seems the league alters a rule that was previously an issue. However, that doesn’t mean that the rulebook is perfect, as even players have suggestions of rules they’d like to change.
At NBA All-Star weekend, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum was asked about whether he had one rule he’d like to add or subtract, and the veteran had a clear answer.

There’s widespread speculation that the Cincinnati Bengals will cut ties with Joe Mixon this off-season. But don’t tell him that.
The veteran running back took to social media Thursday to clap back at rumors that the Bengals are ready to move on from Mixon to clear up some space on the salary cap.
“Lmao y’all said this last year too,” Mixon wrote on X. “That’s [clown emoji] behavior.”
While Mixon is laughing off the rumors, they certainly aren’t unfounded. The 27-year-old currently carries an $8.85 million cap hit for 2024.

The 2024 NCAA baseball season is underway, and we already know one dude who is going to tear through his team’s ice-pack supply and we’re not even through the first weekend of the year.
The Sacramento State Hornets opened their campaign with a Friday doubleheader against Loyola Marymount. This was also outfielder Matt Masciangelo’s Sac State debut after previously playing at CSU Bakersfield.
The Hornets wound up losing both games by 4-0 and then 12-10 in eleven innings, but it’s Masciangelo’s debut that will be remembered because it was flat-out bizarre.
