In the penultimate event of the PGA Tour season, Viktor Hovland just played one of the best rounds of golf of the entire year. Hovland carded a course record 61 at Olympia Fields Country Club during the final round of the BMW Championship. His nine-under round moved him to 17-under for the event, enough to overtake and shock the World’s No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler.
Heading into the final round, Scheffler co-led the event alongside Matt Fitzpatrick at 11-under par. Hovland was three shots back at eight-under par. He and Rory McIlroy were tied for fifth place.

Down by four shots with nine holes to go, Viktor Hovland went nuclear to shoot a course record and win the BMW Championship.
Viktor Hovland blacked out on the back nine as he demolished everything in his path. He shot a final-round 61 to win the BMW Championship and set the course record at Olympia Fields Country Club.
Max Homa had set the course record Friday with a 62, which was then matched by Sam Burns Saturday.
This victory is his second on the season after he won The Memorial, and it marks his first FedEx Cup playoff win.
There have been plenty of bad calls from home plate umpires across MLB this season (Ángel Hernández had another one this weekend), but the error from Junior Valentine during the Yankees–Red Sox clash on Sunday may be the worst of them all.
During the second inning of the AL East rivalry game, New York outfielder Harrison Bader took what appeared by all accounts to be a third strike from Boston’s Nick Pivetta.
The 0-2 four-seam fastball was almost dead center of the strike zone, and Bader even began walking to the dugout under the impression he’d struck out.
Larry Bird is the villain as far as Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers are concerned in episode three of the second season of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.”
“The Second Coming,” airs at 9 p.m. Sunday on HBO Max. OutKick received an advance copy of the show from HBO.
Johnson and Lakers’ owner Jerry Buss watch with disdain as Bird and Celtics general manager Red Auerbach puff victory cigars after beating Houston for the 1981 NBA title. Houston upset the defending champion Lakers in an opening playoff series, 2-1, that season.
It’s not quite the famous picture of Manute Bol and Muggsy Bogues. But Cleveland Browns rookie offensive tackle Dawand Jones standing next to veteran wideout Jakeem Grant creates an incredible image.
The Browns took Jones in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Jones was a potential first or second round pick who fell down draft boards for myriad reasons.
The team signed Grant prior to the 2022 season, but he missed the entire year due to injury. He is expected to return to the field this year and should be the team’s main kick and punt returner.
Tim Anderson will never live down getting KO’d by Cleveland Guardian Jose Ramirez. On Sunday, MLB fans were treated to another glorious callback to the brawl; a fight that saw Anderson start a conflict with Ramirez at second base but unable to finish It.
Ramirez responded by knocking Anderson out cold with a right hook. The rest of MLB evidently has not forgotten.
Facing off against the Detroit Tigers, the Guardians honored future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera. A group of Cleveland personnel, including Ramirez, gave Miggy a custom guitar.
One of the more interesting position battles in the NFL this preseason is Baker Mayfield vs. Kyle Trask. The two quarterbacks are fighting to start the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Week 1 game in Minnesota against the Vikings. Head coach Todd Bowles says he hasn’t made a decision, yet.
But all signs point to Mayfield starting and Trask serving as the backup.
Kyle Trask started the Buccaneers preseason game against the New York Jets on Saturday. He played the entire first half. John Wolford took over but suffered a serious injury and left the field on a stretcher.

Speith struggled to finish strong at the BMW Championship, which means a trip to Atlanta for the Tour Championship may be out of reach.
Jordan Speith shot a 1-over 71 on Sunday at the BMW Championship. That score may not seem bad, but for the former Texas Longhorn, it could mean his season is over.
The 30-year-old could miss the Tour Championship in Atlanta next week. He is flirting with the bubble as he fluctuates from No. 29-30th on the FedEx Cup rankings.
