The Gamecocks once again proved why they have continued the season undefeated.
CLEVELAND — Top overall seed South Carolina defeated No. 3 NC State 78-59 in the first semifinal game of the Women’s Final Four on Friday night at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
After an even first half, the Gamecocks came out hot to start the third quarter — going on a 16-5 scoring run, forcing NC State head coach Wes Moore to call a timeout with 6:29 in the third quarter.
The Gamecocks are headed to the title game.
CLEVELAND – The LSU Tigers garnered headlines last week at the Elite Eight when the team remained in the locker room during the playing of the United States National Anthem. Their opponents, the Iowa Hawkeyes, stood arm-in-arm on the court.
Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey insisted after the game that it wasn’t “intentionally done” and it was just part of their “routine” to be in the locker room 12 minutes before the game starts – which is when the anthem was played.
South Carolina used to have a similar routine.

3 former high school coaches are now leading teams into the men’s Final Four, and they hope to inspire the next generation.
GLENDALE, AZ — Before Danny Hurley pursued history as the head coach of the UConn Huskies, he taught the subject back at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark.
“I’ve been a high school teacher that taught world history starting with the collapse of the Roman Empire, mostly focused on European history,” Hurley said ahead of the 2024 men’s Final Four. “From the Dark Ages all the way through to the Reformation.
San Diego Padres third baseman Graham Pauley had the most unfortunate at-bat of anyone in the MLB so far this season.
It was the top of the eighth inning in a 2-2 tie with the San Francisco Giants, their division rival. Pauley was the first guy up for the Padres, and he found himself in a 2-2 count.
On the next pitch, Tyler Rogers threw a rising fastball that was heading straight for Pauley’s collarbone. In defense, the third baseman swung at the incoming heater.
That’s when it all went sideways for him.
The Texas Rangers were supposed to wear their City Connect uniforms, only there’s a bit of a problem: they don’t have them yet.
You may be wondering how on Earth a Major League Baseball team could be put in a situation where their uniform isn’t ready a week into the season. We’re all wondering that, and I’m sure the Rangers are too.
Dallas Morning News reporter Shawn McFarland posted on X that the Rangers still haven’t gotten their uniforms from Fanatics in time for Friday night’s game.
The New York Red Bulls withdrew their teams from an MLS youth tournament following two incidents of players receiving racial abuse from opponents.
I was speaking to one of my favorite all-time sports writers recently, and he captured Caitlin Clark’s iconic rise to America’s Sweetheart perfectly.
“What makes Caitlin Clark singular is the combination of her shooting and passing skill, the confidence with which she plays, national familiarity after staying for four years unlike top male stars, and her arrival at a time when the women’s game has never been more respected overall and more accessible via TV, streaming, social media and commercial sponsors via Name, Image & Likeness opportunities.
