The saddest story of the 2022 NFL season is now perhaps the most uplifting story of the 2024 season and both involve Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced on Wednesday that Hamlin has won the team’s starting free safety spot alongside strong safety Taylor Rapp for the regular-season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.
And that’s notable because it will be Hamlin’s first start since Jan. 2, 2023, when he suffered a cardiac event and actually stopped breathing on the field during a game at the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bobby Witt Jr. has had one of the best seasons ever for a shortstop, but it will be hard to overtake Aaron Judge in the MVP race.
Bobby Witt is having an all-time great season, especially for a shortstop. Going back to 1969, only two shortstops have put up more than 10 fWAR, 1991 Cal Ripken Jr. and 2002 Alex Rodriguez. For bWAR there are three including Ripken, Rodriguez, and Rico Petrocelli who I will come back to again later as he is the only baseball player in history with a 10+ WAR season that I had never heard of before.

Just when LSU running back John Emery was getting back into his groove with the Tigers, his season has unfortunately come to an end. 
According to a report from Nola.com, the star LSU running back suffered a torn ACL in practice this week and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season. After rushing for 61 yards against USC this past weekend in the loss, the Tigers were looking forward to having Emery back in the rotation as one of the premier backs in the SEC. 
Just two days after the game in Las Vegas, Emery reportedly suffered the torn ACL in practice on Tuesday.

Mike Norvell’s Seminoles and Billy Napier’s Gators are duking it out for the ugliest start to the season.

Let’s predict the NFL season.
Trying to predict the NFL is a fool’s errand. The endless variables in football mean that until we see team run real plays against real defenses it’s difficult to even garner much information from the preseason.
That said, we have some feelings on how we think this season will end up when the dust settles. Here is how we think the divisions, conferences, Super Bowl and the major awards will end.

The Chicago Bears might finally have a franchise quarterback after wandering the NFL desert without one for more than 100 years. It took an incredible string of luck for Chicago to land Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, a process that started with a stunning Houston Texans win in the last game of 2022. Williams will likely take his lumps as a rookie, but his natural talent is undeniable, and has the Bears set up for what should be a long period of contention.
