For Chicago Bears and NFL fans who were hoping the first game of the season would feature No. 1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams, we’ve got some bad news.
The season (well, preseason) starts on Thursday with the annual Hall of Fame Game between the Bears and Houston Texans.
Honestly, after months without football, most of us will take whatever we can get. Although the Hall of Fame Game is a preseason contest, it still brings us the football that America desperately needs.
Unfortunately, there won’t be many recognizable names playing.

Here’s the Olympics’ medal count right now for the Paris Games.
The 2024 Paris Olympics have been absolutely stunning so far. We’re still in the early stages of the games, especially for the United States, but thus far the team is performing very strongly and winning some medals nobody expected, like their bronze in Women’s Rugby, and bronze in Men’s Team Gymnastics.

The Men’s Olympic Golf Competition kicks off Thursday at Le Golf National in Paris; here are the latest odds and predictions.
Some of the best players in the world have arrived in Paris for the Men’s Olympic Golf Competition, a 72-hole stroke-play event featuring 60 golfers.
This tournament is smaller than a PGA Tour Signature Event, but its significance carries greater weight, especially for Matthieu Pavon and Victor Perez, the two Frenchmen in the field.

Eric Staal played just 1,000 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, so it’s only fitting that he’ll officially wrap up his NHL career with the Canes.
The oldest of the Staal brothers, made his debut with the Hurricanes during the 2003-04 season and went on to be part of the team that won the Stanley Cup in 2006.
Staal stayed in Carolina until 2016 at which point he was dealt to the New York Rangers. After that, he spent some time with the Minnesota Wild before splitting the 2020-21 season with between the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens.

The Americans claimed bronze thanks to a stunning walk-off run from Alex Sedrick
In Tuesday’s bronze-medal women’s rugby sevens match between the United States and Australia, the Americans were five points — and nearly the length of the field — away from a loss in the closing seconds.
That’s when Alex Sedrick took matters into her own hands.
Sedrick powered her way through, and then away from, the Australians to deliver a walk-off run that tied the match, and her subsequent conversion gave the United States the bronze medal.

Houston Astros rookie Joey Loperfido was devastated when he heard the news that he’d been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. After playing his final game in an Astros uniform, Loperfido expressed a ton of emotion and bid an emotional farewell to Houston.
“I got emotional for sure saying goodbye to the guys, just because this place feels like home,” Loperfido said, via Astros reporter Brian McTaggart. The rook was drafted out of Duke in 2021, picked in the seventh round. Loperfido made 38 appearances this season, slashing .236/.299/.

Casual fans may tune in with confusion, but there’s a historic explanation.
Casual fans tuning in for Olympic soccer might be wondering why some of the stars who were present for big tournaments this summer, like Copa America or Euro 2024 aren’t present in France.
Fan confusion has certainly peaked watching group stage Olympic matches only to find many of the world’s stars were not present: Kylian Mbappé for France, Lionel Messi for Argentina, young Spanish breakout star Lamine Yamal, or even the USMNT’s Christian Pulisic.

We’ve hit Formula 1‘s summer break, and with IndyCar and NASCAR slowing down during the Olympics, there’s not much on-track action to be found anywhere.
But fear not! There’s still some action regarding the grid for the 2025 season, with one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle — current Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz — falling into place.
Sainz will officially slot in alongside Alex Albon at Williams next season, giving the historic team arguably its most dynamic driver lineup in at least a decade.
