I’m pro Doc Rivers.
I’m pro Ubuntu, pro gravelly voice, pro never-ending jokes about Rivers not being a real doctor. I’m pro Boston Celtics championship in 2008, the one they could have won in ’09 and the one they should have won in ’10. If you think about it, knee injuries to Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins are all that really stand in the way of Rivers having more championships than Chuck Daly.
Or something like that.
I understand I’m in the minority. These days, Rivers is as polarizing as a political candidate.

Sometimes winning requires a little bit of luck. Other times it takes a few blunt words of wisdom from your caddie. For Nelly Korda at the Drive On Championship it was both. And the combination made for a glorious sudden-death playoff finish between Korda and Lydia Ko—two of the LPGA’s most captivating stars—to cap off the second event of the calendar year.
As Korda’s four-shot lead slipped away and Ko inched closer to a victory that would have earned her an automatic berth into the LPGA Hall of Fame, Korda’s looper, Jason McDede, made the pivotal decision to step in.

Baltimore Ravens rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers endured some harsh criticism after he made two unfortunate mistakes during a key drive in Sunday’s AFC championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the third quarter, Flowers taunted Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed after making a 54-yard reception. The move resulted in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. A few plays later in the early fourth quarter, Flowers lost a fumble in the end zone just prior to crossing the goal line.
The mistakes were costly for the Ravens, who went on to lose, 17–10.

Brock Purdy will start in Super Bowl LVIII for the San Francisco 49ers in just under two weeks from today. And yet, he’s not getting paid like most professionals – or even college athletes.
Yesterday, Purdy helped engineer the largest comeback from a halftime deficit in NFL conference title game history. San Francisco trailed 24-7 after two quarters, looking completely lost.
But once the second half hit, Purdy played out of his mind.
Sure, the 51-yard pass that ended in a Brandon Aiyuk circus catch was luck.

Last week, I covered Ryan Clark doing an incredible flip-flop on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Earlier in the season, Clark called Purdy “elite” on ESPN.
Then, after he struggled in the rain against the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round, Clark basically said that he lied when he previously called Purdy elite.
Clark claimed that he had no choice but to “act” like Purdy was good, but he never really thought he was. It was a bizarre rant, honestly.

Poor Ryan Clark.

Emotions sprung loose for the Kelce family after the Kansas City Chiefs upset the Baltimore Ravens, 17—10, in the AFC title game on Sunday. Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce shared a tender moment on the field, and their mom, Donna Kelce, ended up getting pretty sentimental, too.
When Donna Kelce started to tear up during the Chiefs’ postgame celebrations, Travis’s girlfriend, pop star Taylor Swift, was there to comfort her and give her a warm hug.

Colorado coach Deion Sanders was hyped up for the Kansas City Chiefs and coach Andy Reid after their 17–10 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Sunday’s AFC championship game.
This will mark Reid’s fifth Super Bowl appearance: four with the Chiefs and one with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s already won two Super Bowl titles in his career, both with the Chiefs.
Although Sanders, who earned eight Pro Bowl selections as an elite NFL cornerback between 1989 and 2005, never played under Reid, it’s clear Sanders has a lot of respect for the venerable coach.

Englishman Tyrell Hatton is headed to LIV Golf, which has produced some hilarious reactions online.
Tyrell Hatton has followed in Jon Rahm’s footsteps, signing with LIV Golf and joining Rahm’s Legion XIII team in the process.
The move comes just days before LIV launches its 2024 season at Mayakoba in Mexico, with the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am happening concurrently.

‘Let the guys taunt’
The subject of taunting is back on the menu. On Sunday it was Zay Flowers’ turn, when the Ravens receiver was critically flagged in the second half for taunting Chiefs’ DB L’Jarius Sneed.
And yes, to be 100 percent clear: This was absolutely taunting by the letter of the law.

The problem is that this law sucks. This rule is inherently flawed.

NFL Network analyst Peter Schrager must keep a crystal ball under his desk.
For each of the past four seasons, Schrager has correctly picked the winner of the Super Bowl. He took the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in ’20, the Los Angeles Rams in ’21 and the Chiefs again last year. All of those predictions turned out to be correct.
With an impressive track record like that, Schrager’s pick this season drew plenty of attention when he made it on the day the season began. His choice? The Chiefs, again.
