Kenton Ridge girls softball won its second consecutive OHSAA Division IV state championship, winning 7-6 Sunday, June 7, over Newark Licking Valley.
KR trailed 6-0 after two and a half innings and complete a stunning comeback with late game heroics at the plate.
The championship is the second in school history for the Cougars. Its the 64th consecutive win by KR and the program becomes the second team in Ohio history to complete back-to-back undefeated seasons.
Jayden Davis went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and delivered the go-ahead 2-run base hit in the sixth.

José Mourinho is trending after an enigmatic message he posted on his social media following Florentino Pérez’s victory in the Real Madrid presidential elections. 
As is known, Pérez promised the return of the Portuguese manager to the Merengue side’s bench and apparently, there may already be a response from him. 

“Yes, of course,” Mou posted on his social media.

Jose Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid is set to be confirmed after Florentino Perez was re-elected as president at the Bernabeu Stadium.
Perez confirmed the Portuguese’s expected return in his speech after seeing off the challenge of Enrique Riquelme, having made no secret of his intention to name Mourinho as head coach should he seal an eighth term in the role.
It has been reported that Benfica boss Mourinho has agreed a three-year-deal to return to the club he managed from 2010-2013 and replace Alvaro Arbeloa, who was appointed in January after Xabi Alonso’s departure.

Alexander Zverev overcame Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 to win the French Open men’s singles title.
Zverev looked in control early on, but Cobolli dug in and forced a deciding set. In the end, though, it was Zverev who pulled away late to finally get his hands on a major title. McEnroe praised Cobolli for how hard he pushed the new champion.
Zverev’s long-awaited triumph comes after several close calls earlier in his career. His first major final came at the US Open back in 2020, when he lost a five-set battle to Dominic Thiem.

The United States Women’s Open took place over the weekend at Riviera Country Club and it was a star-studded course for a star-studded event.
Perhaps it is appropriate then that the biggest star on the LPGA Tour in some time survived a leaderboard full of top-tier names.

MADISON – Wisconsin has been especially busy on the recruiting trail this month, but it hadn’t made much headway at one of the game’s most important positions.

Nelly Korda has what she coveted most: a U.S. Women’s Open victory.
Korda made a 9-foot birdie on the par-5 17th to take a one-shot lead into the 72nd hole. She then hammered her tee shot 288 yards uphill on the par-4 18th, hit her second from 149 yards to 35 feet, and two-putted the win.
Korda shot 2-under 69 to finish at 8 under par, denying Charley Hull and Gaby Lopez a chance at their first major titles. Both players made dramatic putts on the 18th – Hull from 9 feet for par, Lopez from 15 feet for birdie – to enter the clubhouse at 7 under.

DETROIT (AP) — Kevin McGonigle homered in the fourth inning and hit a two-run single off All-Star closer Andrés Muñoz with two outs in the bottom of the ninth that gave the Detroit Tigers a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
Wenceel Pérez tripled home two runs in the seventh to begin Detroit’s comeback from a 4-1 deficit as the Tigers took two of three games in the series.
Muñoz (3-4) struck out Spencer Torkelson to start the ninth, then walked Zach McKinstry and Pérez.

A wreck involving Christopher Bell and Chase Elliott was so violent that it forced NASCAR to red flag Sunday’s race at Michigan with 50 laps to go.
Elliott and Bell were racing for second place after a restart and Elliott got loose underneath Bell. The contact sent Bell into the wall at a near 45-degree angle. It’s one of the hardest hits you’ll see. Thankfully both drivers immediately climbed from their cars after the crash.

“Totally my fault, I feel really bad for Bell,” Elliott said.
Bell’s hit was so hard that the wall was dented where he hit.
