Breaking down which teams have the most to be angry about with this week’s CFP ranking.
CFP committee chair on how strength of schedule
After a shaky 2023 season with the Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders has suddenly become one of the hottest names in college football coaching circles.
Sanders has led Colorado to an 8-2 record; 6-1 in the Big 12 Conference and the No. 16 spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. It’s hard to argue with that success, in a season that started with few expectations.
Given his profile and the impact he’s had on the Colorado program, there’s been speculation that Sanders could leave Boulder for greener pastures after the season.
Boise State’s Placement Is A Reminder That Playoff Seeds Not Determined By College Football Rankings
The third edition of the College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday, and there was one big change in the format. Boise State, despite being ranked No. 12, is slated to earn a first-round bye since it will be one of the top four conference champions. The Broncos are on a march to the Mountain West Conference Championship Game with its only loss coming to No. 1 Oregon 37-34 in Week 2.
No. 14 BYU is slated to earn the last of the automatic bids as it leads the Big 12 but is not one of the top four conference leaders.

The Committee finally did right by the Group of Five.
Boise State has got a first round bye.
In the latest iteration of the College Football Playoff rankings, the Broncos are one of the highest ranked conference champions by virtue of being projected to win the Mountain West, and would be ranked higher than the Big 12 or AAC champion at that point. With the Broncos all but locking up a spot in the MWC title game against either Colorado State or UNLV, Boise is smooth sailing towards the playoff.
Elsewhere, the Big 12 needs help.
Boise State, which pulled away from San Jose State last Saturday, moved ahead of BYU in the rankings released by the College Football Playoff selection committee Tuesday, putting the Broncos in position to get a first-round bye ahead of the Big 12 champ.

There was a scary scene in the NHL on Monday night when referee Mitch Dunning had to be stretchered off the ice after colliding with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson.
Fortunately, the league has provided a very positive update on his condition.
On Tuesday, the Associate Press reported that the league says Dunning has returned to his home and is expected to make a full recovery after a trip to the hospital following the incident which occurred at the Welles Fargo Center in Philadelphia during a game between the Avs and Flyers which ended in a 3-2 Colorado win.

The Philadelphia 76ers are off to a terrible start this year, and one big culprit has been star Joel Embiid.
Last year’s Eastern Conference contender is off to a nasty start to the season. And not the ‘good’ nasty.
At 2-11, the Sixers are entirely out of sync despite adding nine-time All-Star Paul George in the offseason.

As the first 12-team College Football Playoff rapidly approaches, debate over the committee’s ranking has predictably intensified. And one of the most common arguments revolves around how to handle the multitude of two and three loss teams, particularly in the SEC.
The SEC likes to think of itself as the preeminent conference, where there’s an assumption of inherent difficulty in getting through a grueling schedule. In the 2024 season, that’s manifested in speculation that the league could put five teams in the 12-team field.
The NBA ratings have continued to tank through the first month of the 2024-25 season. Viewership for NBA games on ESPN, its lead broadcast partner, is down 28%, year over year.
The league was already coming off a disappointing season in which its playoff viewership decreased by over 12%.
So, commissioner Adam Silver’s excuse this week that the ratings drop is a byproduct of the “election and World Series” does not suffice. The NBA has been consistently losing viewers for nearly a decade. ย As a whole, the NBA has lost around 45% of its viewership since 2012.

If you’ve been keeping eyes on Bruins land over the last few weeks, you knew this was coming, but now it’s official: the Boston Bruins have fired head coach Jim Montgomery.
The team made the announcement late Tuesday afternoon, the day after a bad 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The loss dropped the B’s record to 8-9-3 on the year, and it was the final straw for Montgomery, who was let go and will be replaced by associate coach Joe Saccon on an interim basis.

There’s obviously been a lot of talk about how this year’s College Football Playoff will mark the first time that the field has expanded to 12 teams, but that’s not the only notable expansion during college football bowl season.
That’s because the Pop-Tarts Bowl just expanded its field of edible mascots by a staggering 200 percent, going from one walking toaster pastry to an unprecedented three.
The Pop-Tart Bowl โ which was the reincarnation of the beloved Cheez-It Bowl โ takes place in Orlando, Florida at Camping World Stadium, and made its debut to rave reviews.

Newell is Georgiaโs third-highest recruit of all time behind now NBA players Anthony Edwards and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
When it comes to the Georgia Bulldogs, almost everyoneโs minds instantly travel to the 8-2 football team vying for a spot in the College Football Playoff with quite a number of NFL hopefuls on the roster.
That has been the case in each of the last four seasons, as the Bulldogs basketball team has been inconsistent, hovering around .500 every year, while constantly struggling in SEC play.
