The NBA’s 65-game rule has its share of critics, but for now, it isn’t going anywhere. Cade Cunningham, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic and other stars will need to play at least 65 games to be eligible for awards such as MVP and All-NBA honors.
With all three missing time this season, it could be a close call for each.

Dusty May has made history twice in his short head-coaching career.
As the coach of Florida Atlantic, he led the Owls to the school’s first Final Four appearance and was one rim-bounce away from the program’s first championship appearance. Now, he has led the Michigan Wolverines to their first title since 1989.
Michigan won their second national title by becoming the first team since 2009 to beat UConn in the Sweet 16 or later.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Alec Bohm hit a go-ahead double in the seventh inning after Bryce Harper’s two-run single tied it, and the Philadelphia Phillies rallied past the struggling San Francisco Giants for a 6-4 win Monday night.
Jonathan Bowlan (1-0) pitched the sixth for the win, receiving another run of support on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Marsh in the decisive inning.
Giants right-hander Adrian Houser looked strong pitching into the seventh in his home debut before Justin Crawford’s leadoff single got the Phillies going on the way to their fifth victory in six games.

It wasn’t Andrew Painter’s best start. It just wasn’t. In the four-inning, 90-pitch outing for the rookie right-hander, there was bad command, which led to hitters’ counts and good swings from the Giants offense.

The Pittsburgh Pirates had been playing mostly clean baseball up to this point but reverted to last season’s ways in a sloppy 5-0 loss to the San Diego Padres at PNC Park on Monday night, ending their five-game win streak.
Top 4th, 1-0 SD: Nick Castellanos doubled home a run off Bubba Chandler for his second hit of the game to break a scoreless tie.
Top 5th, 3-0 SD: Jackson Merrill doubled over the head of Bryan Reynolds in left field on a ball that looked like it potentially could’ve been caught.
Jared Weiss: Victor Wembanyama (left rib contusion) has been ruled out for the rest of the night by the Spurs after he took a fall in the first half. He played 16 minutes, so this counts as one of his two “near-miss” exemptions to the 20-minute threshold on the 65-game rule.

There’s no escaping this simple fact: We are more divided now than we’ve ever been before.
Chalk it up to the proliferation of social media, giving everyone a voice, or increasingly divisive politicians, but either way, things are getting contentious.
It just feels like we can’t agree on anything, regardless of the topic at hand.
Surprisingly, though, there is one thing that seems to be nearly universally accepted among the ranks on social media, and that is the fact that whoever selected the start time for Monday’s national championship is a war criminal.

No. 1 UCLA baseball defeated No. 12 USC 10-4 in their series finale to complete the sweep against their crosstown rival at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The Bruinsdomination of their rival began in a 12-4 opener, but slowed down a bit with a 9-8 second game performance on Saturday. However, UCLA batters continued swinging and the trend of smashing through their opponents pitches persisted with 15 hits ringing throughout the park as five of their 10 runs were home runs.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, who led the major leagues with 60 home runs last year, hit his first of the 2026 season Monday night following a 10-game drought.
Raleigh’s homer was pulled deep to right field against two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom of the Texas Rangers to end a 12-pitch at-bat in the first inning. Raleigh fouled off six pitches with two strikes and connected on a 99 mph fastball.
His longest home run drought last season was eight games.
Raleigh entered hitting .132 this year with only one run scored.

The 2026 NFL Draft is almost upon us, and I haven’t spent nearly as much time speculating on which players I would like to see our Minnesota Vikings go after as I would like.
The Raiders made Kirk Cousins’ signing official on Monday, announcing the deal.
Las Vegas is expected to use the No. 1 overall pick on Fernando Mendoza, which means Cousins will serve as the team’s bridge quarterback until the Heisman Trophy winner is ready.
New coach Klint Kubiak said before Cousins’ signing that he would prefer not to start a rookie Day 1. Cousins allows for Mendoza to sit, watch and learn initially.
Cousins, 37, has made 167 starts in 14 seasons, with Washington, Minnesota and Atlanta.

Michael Wilbon is rarely caught off guard. But UConn women’s coach Geno Auriemma found a way.
On Monday’s episode of Pardon the Interruption, Wilbon delivered one of the sharpest barbs of his career, targeting Auriemma over what he described as “classless” behavior following a loss to South Carolina.
“It’s the disgraceful behavior of a massively insecure bully,” Wilbon said. “It was petulant, it was classless.” For a commentator known for his measured tone, the language stood out for its force and clarity.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a couple of shrewd moves this offseason as the franchise looks to freshen up the roster ahead of the 2026 season.
One move that was interesting was trading for Justin Fields.
Needing a backup plan for Patrick Mahomes, who is rehabbing his torn ACL, the Chiefs needed a dependable backup to step in if Patrick isn’t able to go in Week 1.
Shaquille O’Neal wants to find the best dunker in the world.
O’Neal — who had roughly 4,000 dunks in his NBA career, including playoffs — announced Monday night that he’s the founder and inaugural commissioner of Dunkman, which he’s touting as the first professional league for dunking.
It follows a Dunkman television series, which aired last year. The league, O’Neal said, will look to build off the popularity of that six-episode series.
