Azzi Fudd joins Treavor Scales on SportsCenter
At the 2026 WNBA draft, commissioner Cathy Enge
WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert’s tenure appears to be approaching a boiling point, and her response is only intensifying scrutiny.
Ahead of Monday’s draft, Engelbert was asked a routine question for any executive overseeing a major sports league: how much longer she intends to remain in her role.
Rather than offering direction, she pivoted, replying, “I wonder whether you would ask that of a man.”
Not even Jemele Hill could back the premise put out by Engelbert: “If a man had her track record, absolutely,” Hill responded.
Azzi Fudd is on her way to Dallas as the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft with a $500,000 payday waiting for the former UConn star. Minnesota took Olivia Miles of TCU with the No. 2 pick.
Hoggard girls soccer no longer has to wonder where it stands. The Vikings have taken clear control of the Carolina Coast Conference, and they are not letting go.
Hoggard (9-1-1, 6-0 CC) came out flying and never let up, rolling past Ashley 5-0 at home Tuesday, April 13, to push its lead atop the standings to two games. F
“We’re showing that we are the team that we can be this season,” Hoggard junior Brielle Archer said. “We didn’t come to play. We’re ready.”
Ashley has become something of a thorn in Hoggard’s side in recent years.

Coming out of the All-Star Break in 2025, the Seattle Mariners had some juice. They’d faltered from their scalding April-May surge, ceding the division lead to the Houston Astros at the start of June with a brutal 4-13 stretch from May 24-June 11th featuring multiple losses to Houston and dismal sweeps.

After Brandon Lowe hit the first home run of the 2026 MLB season, the Pirates brought out a welding helmet, revealing a new celebration that pays homage to Pittsburgh’s blue-collar roots. It might not be their most famous celebration this season, though.
After a 1-3 start, the Pirates brought a traffic cone into the dugout.
The Las Vegas Raiders haven’t won a playoff game in 23 years. This is the second-longest drought in the NFL and something they hope the No. 1 overall pick is going to change. With less than two weeks to the start of the 2026 NFL Draft, we’ve updated our Raiders three-round mock draft. There’s no mystery to the top of the draft for the Raiders, but it could be the players they take in the second or third round that finally break their playoff slump.
The Houston Texans still see a world where C.J. Stroud can be the quarterback of the future, which was the main reason why the team picked up his fifth-year option ahead of the 2026 season.
Stroud, who has guided the Texans to three straight playoff appearances, will face legitimate pressure for the first time in his career. Fans are tired of seeing the franchise come to a halt in the divisional round and Stroud has been a culprit of the negative plays, most recently tossing four interceptions en route to a loss against New England.
But the Texans view the former No. 2 overall pick as the No.
Travis Hunter, the Jaguars’ do-everything weapon, jumped on social media to shut down talk that his two-way days are over. But does his take really matter over the Jaguars’?
After NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Jacksonville plans to move the Heisman winner to full-time corner in 2026, Hunter fired back, “Now who told you this?”
Even veteran DB Tony Jefferson chimed in. “They told him that, they just ain’t told you yet, rook. Welcome to the league,” Jefferson posted on X.

Daniel Rodriguez intended to celebrate his latest UFC win under much better circumstances than he did. Instead, a short weekend trip turned into a long, nightmarish eight months.
After enduring a three-fight skid from 2022-24, the welterweight veteran rallied to rebound with three straight wins, culminating at UFC 318 against Kevin Holland last July. Rodriguez, 39, has been a ghost ever since, causing the MMA world to wonder where he vanished to.
After a stunningly slow start, the Seattle Mariners look back to form. The Mariners swept the Houston Astros with a 6-2 win on Monday behind two early home runs from first baseman Josh Naylor.
Naylor, like Seattle’s other stars, has struggled early this season, and hadn’t even scored a run until this weekend. But on Monday, he hit back-to-back homers in his first two at-bats, helping breathe some life back into the Mariners offense.
NEW YORK — The WNBA is entering its 30th season after a long, arduous offseason that brought a new collective bargaining agreement, labor peace and a frenzied free agency period with newly minted million-dollar deals thrown around. But commissioner Cathy Engelbert is already eying a bigger and more international future for the league.
“The past 30 years have been about building the foundation,” she said at a news conference before the 2026 WNBA Draft. “The next 30 are about scaling the game.”
Engelbert said she wants to bring the WNBA outside of North America.

Here is every transaction for the Los Angeles Dodgers for the entire 2026 season, starting with the first day of spring training through the end of the team’s postseason run.
The Florida Gators have a little bit of a quarterback competition on their hands as they wrap up spring ball and head into the summer portion of the offseason.
On one end is Tramell Jones, the redshirt freshman “homegrown” talent that is a holdover from the last staff.
On the other end is Aaron Philo, the handpicked transfer from Georgia Tech who just so happened to play under new Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner while both were with the Yellow Jackets.

The Milwaukee Bucks’ season was forgettable, but their war with Shams Charania wasn’t.
Milwaukee went 32-50 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade. The season was a mess, but the fallout has been far more explosive.
Things picked up after Shams Charania reported there was a “fractured” relationship between Doc Rivers and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Nowhere did that feel less true than after Rivers’ final game, when he and Giannis walked shoulder-to-shoulder back to the locker room following a crushing season-ending loss to the Sixers.

Poking the ball out of Jamaree Bouyea’s pocket, Jared McCain got ahead of the crowd. He ran full court as Topic flung the ball in his direction. The 22-year-old showed off some rare hops as he threw down an ultra-rare one-handed dunk in transition. You could see Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams jump up and down in excitement.
The Oklahoma City Thunder finished their 2025-26 regular season with a 135-103 loss to the Phoenix Suns. With the first seed locked up, they played the finale with the end of the bench and three two-way players.
NEW DELHI: When Ishan Kishan tossed the new ball to debutant Praful Hinge, few could have imagined what would follow. The 24-year-old right-arm pacer produced a sensational opening over, ripping through Rajasthan Royals’ top order and turning the game on its head within minutes.
Hinge dismissed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel and Lhuan-dre Pretorius — all for ducks — in a fiery spell that left RR reeling. It was the first time in IPL history that a bowler had taken three wickets in the very first over of an innings.
The 2026 Masters didn’t just offer a masterclass in golf; it provided a front-row seat to the ultimate intersection of American sports and celebrity culture. While the azaleas were in full bloom and the leaderboard saw a historic shuffle, the real action for many fans was happening behind the ropes.
Augusta National has long been a fortress of tradition, but in 2026, it felt more like the center of the pop-culture universe, creating a gravitational pull that drew in everyone from Hollywood comedians to legendary quarterbacks.
The Tennessee Titans have announced the death of longtime NFL coach and Titans color commentator Dave McGinnis on April 13. McGinnis was 74.
“My heart aches with the loss of Coach Mac, who was so much more than a coach and broadcaster. He was family,” Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement. “Coach Mac gave so much of himself to this organization over the years and his passion, loyalty and love for the Titans never wavered. He cared deeply about the people around him, and that kindness and authenticity left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dennis Gates and Missouri added some serious beef to their frontcourt Monday, securing a commitment from Tennessee transfer Jaylen Carey.
The 6-foot-8, 265-pounder is one of the nation’s premier offensive rebounders and is coming off a season with the Vols where he averaged 7.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in just over 18 minutes per contest.
2025-26 was his lone season with the program after spending one year apiece at both James Madison and Vanderbilt, making him a rare three-time transfer. At each stop, he has made an impact in the paint.

The 2026 WNBA Draft is here, and the Dallas Wings are on the clock with the No. 1 overall pick.
Ex-NBA guard Chris Paul didn’t get a farewell tour. The Point God got a 2 a.m. social media post telling him to go home. No TV booth or front office job.
Just a high school gym in North Hollywood.
According to multiple reports, Paul has joined the coaching staff at Campbell Hall High School as an assistant. His son, Chris Paul II, is a standout guard for the Vikings in the class of 2028.
CP3 is trading the Association for a seat on his son’s bench.
This move follows Paul’s somewhat surprisingly messy NBA exit that didn’t match his career contributions.

Did the Houston Texans have a good luck charm last season?
If so, maybe that’s why the Texans lost in the divisional round against the New England Patriots.
Country music star and avid Texans fan Parker McCollum recently caught some fire from Texans’ ownership after Hannah McNair made it known that the “good luck charm” of Houston was nowhere to be found in the second round of the postseason. McCollum had been in Pittsburgh for the team’s dominant win over the Steelers in the wild-card round.

Legendary ESPN college basketball announcer Dick Vitale announced on Monday that he has been diagnosed with cancer for a fifth time.
Vitale made the announcement via a statement shared by ESPN.
“Today, my oncologist, Dr. Brown, informed me that my biopsy results have confirmed a diagnosis of melanoma in my lung and liver cavity,” Vitale said, per the statement. “I will be starting immunotherapy shortly and plan on winning this battle.”
Vitale, 86, initially announced last week that imaging had revealed abnormalities that prompted his doctors to conduct biopsies.
