NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru star batter Virat Kohli, who has been in ominous form in IPL 2026, had walked off the field with an ankle niggle during the match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. His availability for the clash against Lucknow Super Giants became a major talking point ahead of Wednesday’s game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
However, Kohli attended the training session, practised, interacted with teammates, and shared light moments as he usually does.
NEW DELHI: It has been two years since young batter Ayush Mhatre began his journey with Chennai Super Kings, and sharing the dressing room with MS Dhoni has taken his game to another level. Mhatre spoke about the influence Dhoni has had on his career, crediting him for shaping his leadership skills – something that also played a role in India’s Under-19 World Cup triumph earlier this year.
Mhatre, who captained India to the U-19 World Cup title, reflected on his interactions with Dhoni during IPL 2025, describing them as crucial to his growth as a young leader.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Dennis Bouanga scored a late penalty to help LAFC draw 1-1 with defending champion Cruz Azul on Tuesday and advance to the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals.
Gabriel Fernandez converted a penalty kick in the 18th to put the home team ahead, but Bouanga equalized with a right-foot shot into the bottom left corner deep in stoppage time.
The LAFC, which won the first leg 3-0 with two goals from David Martinez, will play the winner of the series between Toluca FC and LA Galaxy.
Nashville SC is without striker Sam Surridge for the second leg of its CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal series against Club América.
Per a Nashville SC spokesperson, Surridge is “day-to-day” with a hamstring injury and did not travel with the team to Mexico City. Surridge has scored eight goals in 11 matches across all competitions in 2026, leading the team.
In place of Surridge, Warren Madrigal started at forward alongside Hany Mukhtar and Cristian Espinoza for Nashville, which tied América 0-0 in the first leg at Geodis Park on April 7.
Trout puts Angels ahead with 3rd homer in 2 games, and this time Judge and Yankees don't bounce back
NEW YORK (AP) — Mike Trout hit another go-ahead home run, and this time Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees didn’t come back.
Finding his power groove after a mechanical tweak of his swing, Trout hit a 445-foot home run, the first of three Angels long balls in a five-pitch span of the first inning off Ryan Weathers, and Los Angeles beat the Yankees 7-1 on Tuesday night.
Trout has three home runs in the first two games of the four-game series, raising the three-time AL MVP’s season total to five. Jo Adell and Jorge Soler followed with home runs.
On Tuesday night, 5,000 fans were a part of history when the Wilson Warbirds beat the Hill City Howlers 7-5 in their inaugural game at Wilson Ballpark.
“I just could not foresee them putting a stadium this nice in such a small space,” said lifelong Wilson resident Allan Overton.
The Wilson Warbirds, formerly known as the Carolina Mudcats, were located in Zebulon. The team rebranded and relocated to a brand new, $64 million stadium in Wilson.
Six-time MLB All-Star Prince Fielder throws out the first pitch at Wilson Ballpark to his son, Jadyn, who is an infielder on the Warbirds.
Purdue has appeared to hold off the ravages of portal season once more.
Purdue announced all of its scholarship players would be staying for next season after Purdue graduated four seniors from last years team and made it all the way to the Elite Eight.
It’s almost an unprecedented level of retention against a shifting college basketball landscape, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t changing for Purdue.

Florida baseball suffered one of its worst losses of the season Tuesday night, falling to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, 13-7.
Bethune-Cookman scored six different innings, but most of the damage came in the seventh. Three Florida pitchers — Eli Blair, Schuyler Sandford and Cooper Walls — combined to give up five hits and three free bases (a walk and two hit batters). Walls also made a throwing error that allowed the spiral to continue.
Jackson Hoyt made the start for the Gators, going 1 1/3 innings.
Boston Red Sox slugger Willson Contreras
The Boston Red Sox had another tough night on Tuesday.
Boston dropped its 11th contest of the season as it lost against the Minnesota Twins for the second straight night. On Tuesday, the Red Sox’s offense wasn’t able to do anything and the club lost 6-0.
It’s a bit worse than that, though. One of Boston’s top offensive performers was forced to exit the game on Tuesday in Willson Contreras.
Ian Browne of MLB.com reported on X that Contreras was forced to exit the game due to lower back tightness.
The Los Angeles Lakers had the day off on Monday following their regular-season finale, which was a 131-107 win over the Utah Jazz. On Tuesday, they got back to work in advance of the start of their first-round playoff series versus the Houston Rockets.
Coach JJ Redick reiterated that Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, who have a strained hamstring and oblique, respectively, are out “indefinitely.” That will put lots of pressure on LeBron James to not only manufacture lots of points but also to run L.A.’s offense.

A women’s soccer player is reportedly under police investigation after a shocking incident in Minnesota this week.
Conservative reporter and commentator Savanah Hernandez, who works for Turning Point USA, was attacked while covering yet another anti-ICE protest in Minneapolis. Hernandez, who was recording the protest without confronting anyone, was pushed, punched, had whistles blown in her ear, and dildos waved in her face by the anti-ICE mob.
Several of these encounters were extremely aggressive, leading to Hernandez leaving the area and reporting the attack to police.
History could be made this week by Phoenix Rising as the club seeks its first-ever win over Major League Soccer opposition in the U.S. Open Cup.
Rising travels to face the San Jose Earthquakes in the final match of this year’s third round at PayPal Park. It’s the first time the two sides have ever met in competitive play.
“I know a lot of people will look at it and say we are underdogs,” Rising coach Pa-Modou Kah said. “I never look at our team or myself as an underdog. We are equal once we step on the pitch.”

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers brought in another trio of prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft. The headliner was Penn State guard Vega Ioane but the team also brought in Ohio State tight end Will Kacmarek and Iowa guard Beau Stephens.
Ioane has set himself apart among the other guards in this draft but Stephens is an interesting mid-round option for the Steelers. Coming from Iowa, his resume is strong and started 25 games over his final two seasons. Stephens was an anchor on the best offensive line in college football last season.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Matvei Michkov had a goal and two assists and Porter Martone had one goal to lead the playoff-bound Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.
The Flyers rested most of their key veterans a night after they secured their first playoff berth since 2020 and first home playoff series since 2018.
Flyers fans dressed in orange waved “Let’s Go Flyers” rally towels and were in a joyous mood for most of the festive night.
There are more good times ahead.

BOSTON (AP) — Mark Kasetlic scored twice in the first period, Jeremy Swayman earned his second shutout of the season and the Boston Bruins clinched the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with a 4-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.
Boston needed a win to lock up the top wild-card position. The Bruins will face the Atlantic Division champion Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel’s tryst in Sedona produced one hell of a week in sports.
In just a few days, photos surfaced via Page Six, both parties denied any extramarital relationship, and Russini stepped away from her role at The Athletic, as announced on Tuesday.
Whatever actually happened in Sedona has raised unavoidable questions about credibility and whether a reporter crossed a line that should never be blurred. The situation with Russini and Vrabel raised a clear conflict of interest regarding journalistic integrity.

James Franklin was fired as head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions after nearly 11 years in State College, a stunning conclusion to what had been an impressive tenure.
In what was a crazy coaching carousel in college football in 2025, Franklin’s firing was one of the most surprising. To outsiders, and to Franklin himself. He spoke about it in a recent interview, saying that being pushed out at Penn State left him with a “huge chip” on his shoulder heading into the 2026 season at Virginia Tech.

Hunter Carns was responsible for seven of Florida State baseball’s nine runs scored in a 9-2 win over Stetson on Tuesday, April 14.
Carns went 3-for-5, the lone player with multiple hits for the No. 8 Seminoles (25-11, 9-6 ACC), and recorded a career high five RBI alongside a pair of runs scored. He hit a three-run home run in the third inning, his third of the season, and followed that with a two-RBI double in the seventh inning with the bases loaded.

A starting quarterback has been named for the Spartans as we near the end of spring practice.
While the Spartans are “fluid” at nearly every position besides a few, quarterback is not one of them. New Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald met with the media on Tuesday for one of his final press conferences before spring practice wraps up later this week. As part of that media session he noted that a lot of position battles for starting spots will continue into fall camp, but one in particular that has been resolved is at quarterback.
A key piece of the UConn men’s basketball starting lineup will be back in Storrs next year, as Silas Demary Jr. announced on Instagram Tuesday that he will return for the 2026-27 season.
Demary is the second Husky with remaining eligibility to commit to a reunion with UConn, joining rising senior Jayden Ross. Centers Eric Reibe and Rrezon Elezaj have both announced they will be entering the portal, though neither have yet to pick their destination for next season.
Thanks to a 5-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night, the Buffalo Sabres have officially clinched the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
Which meant it was time for the team’s social media admin to start dancing on some haters’ graves.
The Sabres punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2011 earlier this month, but still had to battle the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens to the wire for the top seed.

Dan Le Batard and producer Mike Ryan spent a good chunk of a recent show doing what a certain corner of sports media always does when reality doesn’t match its worldview: melting down. This time, the target was the UFC, Dana White and, of course, Donald Trump.
Why? Because the UFC continues to do something that drives the left-wing sports media insane: it refuses to pretend its fan base shares the same politics as the people lecturing them on TV, social media and podcasts.
