DETROIT – Picking out the craziest moment of the 2024 NFL draft is easy. Thank you, Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons selected Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall selection in the draft.
The Atlanta Falcons, who paid Kirk Cousins a four-year, $180 million contract last month, just picked Michael Penix Jr.
The Atlanta Falcons, who trusted Cousins coming off an Achilles injury, are now trusting Penix after he spent his first four seasons at Indiana – and was unable to complete any of those seasons because of injuries.
It’s fair to say this was a huge surprise.

The New England Patriots and longtime head coach Bill Belichick parted ways this off-season, beginning a new era for the team. That new era now includes former North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.
There were plenty of rumors that the Patriots wanted to trade down in the first round, but ultimately, they kept the #3 overall pick and selected Maye. Belichick, who was not able to find a new head coaching gig in the NFL, joined Pat McAfee on ESPN to break down the NFL Draft.
That meant fans got to hear exactly what Belichick thought about his former team’s first-round pick.
Deion Sanders captivated the college football world during the 2023 season, especially as his Colorado Buffaloes started the season with three impressive wins.
Losses to Oregon and USC though, sent their season into a tailspin. Colorado lost six straight games to end the season, including an embarrassing 56-14 loss to Washington State. Even still though, speculation about Sanders leaving Boulder for the NFL increased, especially with his sons set to age out of college football in the future.

Clay declared that the NFL should do away with the Black National Anthem (Lift Every Voice and Sing), which CT called out for being redundant.
It’s unnecessary to include the Black National Anthem in NFL pre-game festivities when we already have an anthem dedicated to all Americans.

Apparently, the Philadelphia Eagles have a thing for making A.J. Brown news during the first round of the NFL Draft. Two years ago, during the 2022 NFL Draft, the Eagles traded for the star receiver from the Tennessee Titans.
This year, just minutes before the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, news broke that the team signed Brown to a massive contract extension. There were rumors that Brown might be traded again during the NFL Draft, this time with the Eagles shipping him out of town.
But, that’s not happening.

Earlier Thursday, I wrote a story on the crowd at the NFL Draft in Detroit. Fans started showing up nearly eight hours before it started, so we knew the attendance number was going to be big.
But, I vastly underestimated exactly HOW big. There were over 150,000 people in attendance in the final hour prior to the first pick. Some reports suggested that as many as 400,000 people could show up to see the NFL Draft in person. Just ridiculous numbers and crazy photos and videos from a wild scene.
You can’t get a view like this anywhere.
The Los Angeles Rams won’t be going to their home facilities in Inglewood, Calif., to submit their pick(s) for Thursday’s Day 1 of the NFL Draft.

Instead, Rams personnel will shack up in Hermosa Beach — located in Los Angeles County’s South Bay community — to make their draft picks from the comfort of an elegant beach house located a few blocks away from the gorgeous Hermosa Beach pier.

The 2024 NFL Draft will be defined by an early run on quarterbacks. There’s so much talent available after that once Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels all come off the board.
The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 pick in the draft thanks to their prescient trade with the Carolina Panthers ahead of last year’s NFL Draft. The Bears are expected to select Williams after trading Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason.
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry won the NBA Clutch Player of the Year award for the 2023-24 season.

Well, it’s official – Nick Saban is no longer the head coach at Alabama.
Wait, you knew that already!
Let me try it again …
Nick Saban is officially part of College GameDay, making his debut Thursday evening live from the 2024 NFL Draft.
And guess what? He crushed it. Surprising? Nope. A little jarring to see? Yep. Did ESPN begin the unfortunate – but inevitable – process of replacing Lee Corso?
Well, I certainly think so. That’s up for debate, I reckon.
What’s not, though, is the fact that Saban crushed his full-time GameDay debut.

Day 1 of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans saw fresh faces on top of the leaderboard as they went low to set the tone.
Two duos went low at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans as Patton Kizzire and his partner Ben Kholes are tied with Mark Hubbard and Ryan Brehm.
Each team fired off bogey-free 11-under 61s to lead by one shot over three teams at 10-under, as of this writing.
Kizzire and Kholes made six birdies on the front nine to make the turn in 30 shots. Coming home, they added four birdies between holes 10-14.

Charlie Woods, only 15-years-old, did not have his best stuff in the first stage of U.S. Open qualifying.
Perhaps nothing in golf is more difficult than trying to qualify for the U.S. Open.
The United States Golf Association (USGA) accepted over 10,000 entries into this year’s qualifiers, all of which are professional players or amateurs who carry a handicap index of 0.4 or better.
Many golf fans learned that Joel Dahmen is one of the most entertaining players on the PGA Tour thanks to his appearance on the Netflix documentary “Full Swing.” This week, he put that on full-display at the Zurich Classic by trying to match his partner Keith Mitchell’s signature look.
Mitchell is one of the few players on the PGA Tour that sports a visor instead of a hat when he plays golf. Personally, I am not a fan of dudes wearing visors. I especially hate it when football coaches do it, but golfers get slightly more grace. SLIGHTLY more.
Major League Baseball is bringing back one of its most interesting league-wide promotions later this season, but with a significant adjustment to its previous implementation.
Starting in 2017, MLB instituted what it called “Players Weekend,” an attempt to appeal to younger fans. Teams initially wore jerseys that were reminiscent of Little League style uniforms; with multi-colored tops. Most interestingly though, the league also allowed players to customize the name on the back of their jersey.
Some players had, well, a lot of fun with it.
