CHICAGO (AP) — Azzi Fudd scored 25 points, and No. 1 UConn won its 40th straight game dating to last season, routing DePaul 86-40 on Wednesday night.
Fudd made four 3-pointers. Sarah Strong added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, and the defending national champions made it look easy yet again.
The Huskies (24-0, 13-0 Big East) have won 19 straight by at least 25 points, the longest streak by a Division I team over the past 25 years. All but one of their games this season have been decided by double digits.

On Thursday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers will return home from the eight-game Grammy road trip they just completed and face the Philadelphia 76ers at Crypto.com Arena. That means going up against former MVP and scoring champion Joel Embiid, who has been on a tear lately.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, they will be a bit short-handed in the middle for that contest, as backup center Jaxson Hayes has been suspended for one game. The reason for the suspension is somewhat odd.

Apparently, a private moment turned public for Jon Jones.
Yesterday, a clip of the former two-division Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion surfaced online, revealing that “Bones” is dealing with severe arthritis in his hip.

The Eagles’ off-season of uncertainty continued on Wednesday, as offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland departed the organization after 13 years. It was a stunning decision that followed Stoutland’s removal as running game coordinator. Philadelphia will work to find a replacement, but not everything was bad for the Birds. Jeff McLane reports that Vic Fangio will remain the Eagles‘ defensive coordinator, returning to Philadelphia for his third seasonfranchise.
The news of Fangio’s return comes after some uncertainty about the legendary playcaller’s future.

The Olympic break has begun, but one last big move took place in the NHL before the trade freeze for the games. On Wednesday the New York Rangers traded star forward Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings in a move designed to solidify the Kings’ playoff push in the back end of the season.

Lakers center Jaxson Hayes will sit out Thursday after the NBA suspended him one game without pay for shoving the Washington Wizards’ mascot during pregame introductions last Friday.
Yes, the mascot.
While most players either high-five G-Wiz or ignore him, Hayes chose to shove a guy in a giant blue costume, nearly knocking over a cheerleader in the process. 
It was unnecessary and embarrassing, even for Hayes.
Hayes is seven feet tall and decided to play tough guy against someone whose job is dancing, waving flags and firing T-shirts into the crowd.

The Wolverines (20-3, 11-1 Big Ten) went on a 15-6 run to take a nine-point lead early in the fourth quarter and turned what was a closely contested game into a double-digit victory.
Michigan has won a school-record nine straight Big Ten games.
That streak will be put to a test Sunday at home against UCLA, the second-ranked team in The Associated Press women’s college basketball poll.

One of baseball’s most consistent and durable pitchers has his first big free-agent contract. Framber Valdez reportedly agreed to a three-year, $115 million deal with the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Valdez, 32, is coming off a season in which he posted a 3.66 ERA over 192 innings. By some measures, it was the lefty’s worst year in the majors since he became a regular in 2020.

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II does not believe the Super Bowl matchup between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will be close.
When asked to give his prediction on the game, the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year predicted the Seahawks would defeat the Patriots by a “35-7” margin.
The Broncos held the Patriots to only 10 points in the AFC Championship Game. However, they failed to muster more than seven points on offense with backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham starting in place of Bo Nix.

Another NFL coaching cycle is winding down, and there has been a lot made of the fact that none of the head coaching vacancies have been filled by black coaches.

Penn State Nittany Lions forward Gavin McKenna is expected to be the first player to hear his name called in the 2026 NHL Draft, but it’s now being reported that the star freshman is facing a felony aggravated assault charge.
According to Onward State, McKenna was involved in an incident in downtown State College on Saturday night around 10:35 pm local time. 
State College Police reportedly charged McKenna with aggravated assault, saying that the assault “attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference.
