Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez, 42, was sentenced to five years in prison in San Jose, Calif., on Monday for attempted murder and other charges stemming from an incident in 2022. 
Velasquez had targeted Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting the fighter’s son while the child was at a daycare operated by Goularte’s mother.  In a high-speed chase, Velasquez pursued and fired at a vehicle carrying both Goularte and his stepfather. 
Velasquez used his .40-caliber handgun, striking Goularte’s stepfather, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the “New Jersey Americans”.

Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas hired Xavier’s Sean Miller to take over the Longhorns basketball program on Monday, turning to the coach who had just knocked them out of the NCAA Tournament a few days earlier in an attempt to spark a program that struggled in its first season in the Southeastern Conference.
The announcement comes a day after Texas fired Rodney Terry, and less than a week after Miller and Xavier knocked the Longhorns out of March Madness in a First Four game. Xavier was beaten in the next round by Illinois.
Texas planned an introductory news conference with Miller on Tuesday.

Cam Ward appeared to yell something toward the Tennessee Titans brass during his pro day workout on Monday.
The Miami quarterback revealed what he said during a post-session interview with NFL Network.
“I said, ‘I’m solidifying it today,’” Ward said with a smile, referencing his potential status as the No. 1 overall pick. “I made sure they heard me.”
The Titans own the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft and Ward is the odds on favorite to be the top selection.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood was awaiting the results of scans on a right hip injury which forced him from the field Monday in New Zealand’s World Cup qualifying victory over New Caledonia.
Wood was substituted in the 53rd minute of the Oceania qualifying final with the score 0-0. New Zealand won the match 3-0 to become the second team after Japan to qualify to the 2026 World Cup.
Wood was to undergo scans on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.
“That’s where the pain is at the moment,” he said.

The senior guard for the fifth-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide went down furiously swinging in the final game of her college career, scoring 45 points in a double-overtime loss at No. 4 Maryland, 111-108.
