BOSTON — It has become an all-too-common narrative arc, though it remains an uplifting and exciting scene: a talented and accomplished pitcher making his first appearance in the big leagues after a year-plus away while rehabbing from elbow surgery.

ATLANTA – The Cincinnati Reds surrendered one of the most painful inside-the-park home runs in recent memory, losing young left fielder Tyler Callihan to a broken left forearm along the way.
With one man on and two out in the bottom of the third in Atlanta Monday night, the Braves‘ Matt Olson drove a liner into the left-field corner at Truist Park. Callihan was reaching the ball in time to glove it at full-speed – two steps before he slammed into the padded wall in foul territory, glove first.

TORONTO (AP) — Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz left Game 1 of the team’s second round series against Florida on Monday night with an apparent head injury.
Stolarz took an elbow to the back of the head from Panthers forward Sam Bennett shortly before his departure. He also took a puck to the mask, knocking it off his head, earlier.
Television replays appeared to show Stolarz vomiting into a bucket by the team bench before leaving midway through the second period. The team said he was under evaluation.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tyler Callihan broke his left forearm while trying to make a sliding catch against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.
In the third inning of the Braves’ 4-0 win, Callihan chased down a fly ball from Matt Olson deep in left field. While Callihan appeared to make the grab initially, he slammed into the wall hard along the left-field line.

The Boston Celtics did not exactly have an auspicious start to their 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals second round series against the New York Knicks, dropping Game 1 of the series 108-105 in overtime on Monday (May 5) night to fall to 0-1 in the East Semis.
A strong start for the Celtics in the first half fell apart midway through the third quarter, with the Knicks chipping away at a lead that had grown to 20 points little by little, eventually stealing the game in the extra period.
