The Chicago Blackhawks faithful haven’t had much to cheer about this season, but at least they got a little excitement ahead of the team’s Wednesday night clash with the Edmonton Oilers.
The game had a bit of an unusually late start time with puck drop scheduled for 8:30 in the evening Chicago time, and, apparently, that was late enough in the evening for nocturnal animals to start dropping out of the rafters.
Fans noticed a bat doing its thing down at ice level in the United Center.
Alright, somebody get some tennis rackets and pool skimmers, stat.

Jerry Jones took a lot of heat back in September when he claimed that the Dallas Cowboys “couldn’t afford” to sign Derrick Henry. According to Micah Parsons, though, the All-Pro running back wouldn’t have made a difference anyway.
After eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Henry signed with the Baltimore Ravens on a two-year, $16 million deal last offseason. Henry trains in Dallas in the off-season and showed interest in signing with the Cowboys during free agency. After losing Tony Pollard to the Titans, the Cowboys needed a running back, too.

President Donald Trump’s Department of Education (DOE) launched an investigation into potential Title IX violations that occurred at multiple educational institutions, hours after he signed an executive order to ban trans athletes from women’s sports. 
The Department’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) will be investigating San Jose State University, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) for separate incidents involving trans athletes competing on a women’s or girls’ sports team.

Grading the big trade between the Lakers and Hornets.
With the NBA still reeling from the Lakers’ acquisition of Luka Doncic, the team needed to find a way to improve quickly at center. Replacing Anthony Davis is something the Lakers couldn’t do easily — but Rob Pelinka made a significant upgrade on their post-AD situation overnight by getting Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets.
This trade was considerably more difficult to make than the deal for Doncic, which is mind-blowing.

The Lakers not only got better at the NBA trade deadline, they also got more flexible to further improve.
The Los Angeles Lakers surprised the NBA world again on Wednesday night. It wasn’t quite the earth-shattering thunderbolt of their Luka Doncic trade earlier in the week, but given that few were even certain that third-year Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams was even available, L.A. getting him for Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2031 first-rounder and 2030 swap certainly qualified as unexpected.
