SAITAMA, Japan (AP) — Japan became the first team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after beating Bahrain 2-0 at Saitama Stadium on Thursday.
Second-half goals from Daichi Kamada and Takefusa Kubo ensured the Samurai Blue secured a spot in Asia Group C’s top two automatic qualification places.
At its eighth successive World Cup, Japan joins co-hosts the United States, Canada and Mexico in the expanded 48-team tournament.

Kamilla Cardoso was named the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association’s International Player of the Year, beating out several other WNBA stars.
Kamilla Cardoso has won the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association’s International Player of the Year award. She averaged 20.8 points per game on 64.7% shooting, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 31.4 minutes per game. Her club, the Shanghai Baoshan Dahua Swordfish, finished 5th overall.

Look, I like Katherine Legge. I’ve covered her a ton over the years down here in Daytona. She’s a nice person, with an incredible accent. This really isn’t about her. 
It’s about NASCAR allowing her to take the wheel in an actual Cup race with no experience two weeks ago at Phoenix. She promptly crashed twice, took out an actual Cup driver (Daniel Suarez) along the way, and has since received a ton of backlash from pissed-off fans. 
Angry NASCAR fans? Come on! You don’t say.

SHANGHAI (AP) — Lewis Hamilton denied there’s frustration with Ferrari race engineer Ricciardo Adami despite frequently shutting down unnecessary radio chatter between them at the Australian Grand Prix.
“Everyone overreacted,” Hamilton said on Thursday.
Hamilton had a miserable debut weekend for Ferrari in Melbourne last week after qualifying eighth and finishing 10th for the final point. That ended preseason testing hype that had the Scuderia as a potential McLaren challenger.

The 49ers have said goodbye to a number of players since the start of the league year and General Manager John Lynch said on Wednesday that it has been “terrible” to see those players depart, but he also offered some positive thoughts for fans worried that the team is preparing to take a step backward.
Lynch spoke to reporters at Stanford’s Pro Day and said that those fans should know “we have a plan” to restock the roster.
