FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) — Rex Maurer won the first race of Day 2 at the NCAA men’s swimming and diving championships and his Texas teammate Hubert Kos took the second event as the Longhorns ended Thursday night in first place with 190 points.
Maurer took the 500-yard freestyle in 4:05.35 ahead of teammate Luke Hobson to clinch a 1-2 finish for Texas, which made a big jump atop the team standings.
Kos, an Olympic gold medalist, held off a late surge by Cal’s Destin Lasco in the 200 individual medley with a personal-best time of 1:37.91.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – While the Alabama Crimson Tide were scoring 113 points in the NCAA Sweet 16, and the Indiana Pacers were putting 162 on the Washington Wizards in an NBA contest, the Cooper Jaguars boys basketball team won their Kentucky state tournament opener by doing what they do best: Good, old-fashioned, hard-nosed defense.
Cooper outlasted Henderson County 50-35 in the first round of the UK HealthCare Kentucky High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball Sweet 16 Thursday night at Rupp Arena.
Cooper (24-5) advances to Friday night’s 8:30 p.m.

Move over March Madness, Josh Giddy may have just made the best buzzer-beater we’ll see this month!
On Thursday, the Chicago Bulls looked down and out against the Los Angeles Lakers late in the game. The Lakers took what was seemingly a last-second 117-116 lead with 3.3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. However, the Bulls had time for one last possession despite not having any more timeouts and boy, did they make some magic with it.
With just those few precious seconds remaining, Giddy threw out the inbound pass before receiving it right back with some space ahead of him.
