Legendary college football coach Urban Meyer thinks money in college sports has gone too far.
Ever since NIL became the name of the game in college athletics, athletes have been able to profit off their name, image and likeness. The idea of NIL was for players to land sponsorship deals, and for some, that’s what’s happening. The success of Olivia Dunne is an example of that pathing paying off.
However, the situation has also just turned into NIL collectives writing massive checks in order to land players, and Meyer thinks that’s a step too far.

The Carolina Panthers reportedly have interest in keeping Sam Darnold on the roster.
Carolina’s QB situation is a bit of a mess, and there’s a high chance the team burns an early draft pick on a passer.
The Baker Mayfield experiment ended in disastrous fashion, Matt Corral ended up getting hurt before his season even started and Sam Darnold, who is now an unrestricted free agent, closed out the year as the starter.

The program has caught plenty of heat off the court in recent weeks, but it scraped out yet another key conference win Wednesday.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.—Over the past week, it has felt like the world has watched just about everything Brandon Miller has done.
On Wednesday night, in front of a friendly home crowd at Coleman Coliseum, ahead of a game against in-state rival Auburn, the world watched, of all things, pregame introductions.
It was a special night for the Commodores.
Vanderbilt men’s basketball pulled off a stunning road upset of Kentucky on Wednesday night, defeating its SEC rivals 68–66 to improve to 17–13 on the season. Head coach Jerry Stackhouse couldn’t hide his emotion after what was a statement win for the Commodores, and one of their biggest victories since he took over the program.
Vanderbilt was led in scoring by senior guard Jordan Wright, the first player Stackhouse recruited to the program, and the 48-year-old was tearing up as he discussed the importance of the win in the aftermath.
Kevin Durant has faced criticism over the years, and on Wednesday he began his latest journey. But he wants to make sure you know not much has changed.
No. 2 Alabama found out something it will likely not have to deal with the rest of this season on Wednesday night. It can play well without Brandon Miller.
Miller was not himself as he scored just 17 points on 3-of-12 shooting and turned it over six times as the Crimson Tide found itself behind unranked Auburn, 66-49, with 10 minutes to go at home.
BRANDON MILLER PRE-GAME INTRODUCTION CHANGED
But just in case Miller ever is suspended for his tertiary role in the murder of Jamea Jonae Harris on the Alabama Strip on Jan. 15, Alabama has other players who can take over a game.
March Madness…no kidding.
The first round of the 2023 SEC Tournament in women’s college hoops got off to a chippy start. The Wednesday night matchup between Kentucky and Florida featured a full-on brawl on the court after a Gators player threw a basketball at her opponent’s head.
With five minutes left in the second quarter, University of Kentucky forward Ajae Petty cradled the ball after a basket was made and put it up to Florida forward Tatyana Wyche’s face.
Petty tried to punk Wyche, but the move quickly backfired.
