The Yankees are playing out the string for the first time in decades, but it is not safe to assume that manager Aaron Boone will lose his job because of it.
Preseason football is officially over, which means the start of the regular season is nearly here.
Many starters used the third and final week of the preseason as an opportunity to rest, though a few took the field for a handful of series to warm up for Week 1. The star of the weekend was Aaron Rodgers, who made his Jets debut against the Giants. That’s where our preseason takeaways begin:
Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson Make it Look Easy
The connection between Rodgers and Wilson was evident across two series Saturday.
On Saturday, FIFA suspended the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, for 90 days to conduct an investigation. Rubiales kissed striker Jennifer Hermoso following the team’s victory in the Women’s World Cup final.
Although Hermoso initially said that she “did not enjoy that,” she later said it was no big deal.
“It was a mutual, totally spontaneous gesture because of the huge joy of winning a World Cup,” she said in an interview with Spain’s EFE. “The ‘presi’ and I have a great relationship. His behavior with us has been a ’10.

After the conclusion of the Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy spoke to the media and advocated for the tournament’s current format.
ATLANTA — The ‘starting strokes’ format at the Tour Championship is a polarizing topic among players, media, and fans. Some like it, while others, such as Jon Rahm, do not.
“I don’t think it’s the best [system] we can come up with,” Rahm said ahead of the Tour Championship.
Giants QB Daniel Jones has seen his average draft position soar, while Colts RB Jonathan Taylor is sinking as he seeks a trade.
Zach Johnson will make his six captain’s picks for the U.S. Ryder Cup team on August 29, and as is the case every other year, there seems to be more players deserving of a spot than spots available.
Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka are the two most-talked-about players who missed out on an automatic spot that everyone seems to have a differing opinion on. You then have red-hot Lucas Glover hoping for his first-ever Ryder Cup appearance, Keegan Bradley hoping for a return, and the likes of Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth waiting to have their names called by Johnson.
Let’s remember some of Pepsi’s best sports commercials of the ‘90s and early ‘00s.
Pepsi and sports are inexorably linked. While it might be thought of as the official drink of the NFL, or for some of the most memorable Super Bowl halftime shows of all-time, the company’s ads have also been king when it came to athlete endorsements — especially in the ‘90s.
A huge marketing push for Pepsi in the early 90s was differentiating it from Coca-Cola, which was largely seen as “your parents’ cola.
Jim Harbaugh might want to dial down the drama going into the season.
Michigan self-imposed a three-game suspension on Harbaugh in response to alleged NCAA violations back during the days of COVID.
The successful Big Ten coach was accused of buying recruits food and then more importantly, lying about it to investigators.
In an attempt to cut off the NCAA’s need to punish him, the Wolverines suspended Harbaugh for the games against East Carolina, UNLV and Bowling Green.
