With every NFL season comes an opportunity for teams to achieve immortality by taking home the coveted Lombardi Trophy. But, for nine NFL stars, a Super Bowl ring won’t be the only way they can cement their legacies in 2023.
As the NFL makes its final preparations for Week 1, the highly anticipated kickoff will usher in the march toward career milestones for Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, Derrick Henry, Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, Von Miller, Cam Jordan, Calais Campbell and Cordarrelle Patterson.

Competing in a survivor pool is an ideal way to stay engaged with the NFL every week. It doesn’t require the same commitment level as running a fantasy football team or involve any of the intricacies of betting.
It boils down to a rather elementary idea: Pick one winner and advance. Of course, there’s a little more strategy involved than that but that’s the gist of it.
For those new to survivor pools, here’s how it works: Competitors pick one team each week that they expect to win — straight up, not against the spread. If that team is victorious, on to the next week you go.
New England will have a QB2 for Week 1 of the season.
We have wandered to the end of August without resolution of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s appraisal of Stanford, California and SMU as new members. Friday morning, sources tell Sports Illustrated, our long national realignment nightmare should culminate in a formal vote for inclusion or an informal rejection. It’s go or no-go time.
The only proper way to end this thing is with the addition of those schools to the league.
Since the Pac-12 dissolved Aug. 4 in an acidic solution of competitor avarice, TV predation and lousy internal leadership, four schools have been left twisting.
Andy Murray is out of the US Open after falling in straight sets to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
Our fantasy football draft kit is your one-stop shop to get ready for the upcoming season and build a winning team!
A tick late this week with preseason work I’m getting through—sorry about that. And here’s the mailbag for you …
From Ronnie (@Tray4o): How come Bill Belichick let go both of Mac Jones’s backups? And who is expected to be the Patriots’ backup QB now?
Ronnie, I will say that I think a lot of people acting shocked, or feigning shock in blog posts, probably don’t pay enough attention to these things.
There were two things at work here.
One is that the Patriots needed roster spots to get players to short-term IR.
New Colorado coach Deion Sanders has a bit of a history with his team’s season-opening opponent, TCU.
Sanders was a finalist to replace Gary Patterson as TCU’s coach two seasons ago, only to be beaten out by eventual hire Sonny Dykes. Dykes took TCU to the CFP national title game last season, and Sanders got the job with Colorado this offseason. But that’s not where the bad blood lies between Sanders and the Horned Frogs.
It instead has everything to do with one of his sons, Buffaloes starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
ESPN released its annual “Top 100 NFL Players” list and, as usual, there are some massive errors. The easiest position to focus on is quarterback. Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott are massively overrated. Kirk Cousins, also as usual, is underrated.
ESPN puts Jalen Hurts as the third-best player in the NFL
Let’s pump the brakes here. Jalen Hurts is a player that the Philadelphia Eagles weren’t certain was good enough to be their starting quarterback prior to last season. They gave him a chance and he rewarded them with an NFC Championship and a trip to the Super Bowl.
Deion Sanders ranks among the most successful two-sport athletes in sports history.
Sanders was a lockdown cornerback who dazzled on special teams and dabbled on offense during his 14-year NFL career with the Falcons, 49ers, Cowboys, Washington and the Ravens. His gridiron exploits earned him enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He also played in parts of nine MLB seasons with the Yankees, Braves, Reds and Giants, racking up 39 home runs and 168 RBIs and a .263 career batting average.
Now, the first-year Colorado football coach has his eyes on the baseball diamond again.
