In the summer of 2021, Texas and Oklahoma announced their intentions to leave the Big 12 for the SEC.
That move, which will go into effect in 2024, was the beginning of this latest stage of conference realignment, which has taken hold of the sport in full force this summer.
But today is a day to reflect on the two-year anniversary of “The Alliance” that featured the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12. Of course, The Alliance meant nothing. There was nothing binding about it.

Watson went in on the PGA Tour for a second time, voicing his displeasure regarding his previous concerns being ignored.
Tom Watson is one of the most legendary names when it comes to professional golf and the PGA Tour. He has done some incredible things throughout his career. The 73-year-old voiced his opinion about LIV Golf and the PIF deal before, but his most recent words hit the Tour hard.
The eight-time major champion gave his stance on the framework deal between the Tour, PIF and LIV Golf while on the Five Clubs podcast with Gary Williams.
During the first game of a Wednesday doubleheader, Shohei Ohtani received the news that he’d torn his UCL, a devastating blow to one of the best individual baseball seasons in history and a serious twist for his impending free agency. East Lake Golf Club is a staple on the PGA Tour calendar as it hosts the season ending Tour Championship each year.
ATLANTA — East Lake Golf Club will undergo an extensive renovation next year. Renowned architect Andrew Green, who recently oversaw the restoration of Oak Hill Country Club’s East Course, will alter East Lake and attempt to bring the course back to its original Donald Ross design.
Shohei Ohtani is often described as a modern-day Babe Ruth, but the better comparison today, in the wake of the news that Ohtani has a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow, is Anthony Davis.
A few years ago, Davis was in the same position that Ohtani was in last winter: He was a superstar on a losing team, with free agency looming. Davis requested a trade and got everything he wanted. Ohtani did what baseball stars often do: He waited for free agency. There is no way to know what that will ultimately cost him, but it could be hundreds of millions.

A pair of pole vaulters agreed to split the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.
This now begs an important question: Is this kind of situation a heart-warming act of sportsmanship or kind of lame and an affront to the very ethos of athletic competitions?
It happened at the World Athletic Championship in Budapest, where pole vaulters Katie Moon of the US and Australian Nina Kennedy battled it out in the final. Both made it over the bar at 4.90 meters.
This is the run that made Katie Moon co-World Champion in Pole Vault with Australia’s Nina Kennedy.
