The Houston Rockets have landed another veteran player in free agency as Dillon Brooks agreed on a four-year, $80 million contract on Saturday.
Jakob Dixon did not last long at the University of Kentucky and now he is getting trolled by his former Wildcat teammates. It is cold-blood, but it’s all in good fun— probably. Maybe.
Dixon, a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023, stands 6-foot-4, 197 pounds and will play either tight end or wide receiver in college. He hails from Louisville, Ky. and received just one FBS scholarship offer in total.
Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, Dartmouth, Murray State, Tennessee State and Eastern Kentucky were among schools to get in on Dixon’s recruitment.
The Nets are trading point guard Patty Mills to the Rockets to clear cap space, and Houston will then send Mills to the Grizzlies as part of a deal to acquire Dillon Brooks, The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Kelly Iko reported Saturday night.
After signing Mills to a one-year deal in the 2021-22 season, Brooklyn re-signed Mills to a two-year contract worth over $13 million total last offseason. Mills had a strong first season with the Nets, averaging 11.4 points per game over 81 games, but last year his production dipped to 6.2 points per game in 40 appearances.
For some unknown reason, the Italian Bowl was played in Toledo, Ohio on Saturday. The game, which is essentially the Italian Super Bowl, is the final of the Italian Football League playoffs.
All of the regular season and the playoffs were played overseas, and then the championship game was played in The Glass City. It was super confusing, which made it super awesome.
There is no clear reason as to why the Italian Bowl was played in Ohio. It just was. The University of Toledo hosted the game on its field at Glass Bowl Stadium and the crowd was surprisingly, not terrible.
The U.S. men’s national team’s Italian summer has begun.
Juventus officially has announced the signing of winger Tim Weah to a five-year contract in what is expected to be the first of a series of moves to Serie A for USMNT stars.
The 23-year-old arrives from French side Lille in a deal initially worth $11.3 million with another $2.3 million tied up in performance bonuses. Over the past three seasons with Lille, Weah made more than 100 appearances while also helping the club to a surprising Ligue 1 title in 2020-21.
While Luke Voit is trying to get back to the major leagues, he is playing for the Mets’ Triple A affiliate in Syracuse, hoping the Mets or another team will take another chance on him. In the meantime, the veteran first baseman is having fun with the fact that he can adhere to looser uniform restrictions.
On Saturday night, the Syracuse Mets hosted the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, and the Mets wore “Salt City” alternate uniforms that featured sleeveless jerseys.
Angel Reese’s first game as a member of Team USA could not have gone much better. She might have wanted just one more rebound to pad her stat line, but it wasn’t necessary for the Americans to get the job done in dominant fashion.
Reese, a rising senior at LSU, is coming off of a national championship during her first year with the Tigers after transferring from Maryland. The 21-year-old has quickly become a household name because of her on-court performance and because of her animated personality.
She is one of the highest-earning athletes in the NIL space, both male and female.
Trevor Bauer was not happy with his Japanese teammates on Saturday. The 32-year-old former Cy Young Award winner lost his mind on multiple occasions throughout the game.
Bauer, in his first year playing overseas, has not pitched in the MLB since 2021. He was placed on administrative leave amid an investigation into significant sexual assault allegations and was later suspended per the league’s domestic violence policy.
Although the once-dominant ace never faced any criminal charges and maintains his innocence, no team was willing to sign him in 2023 after his reinstatement.

Before the Austrian Grand Prix, it’s time to note some winners and losers from Sprint Saturday
Wet conditions and some bold strategy calls made for an intriguing F1 Sprint race on Saturday at Red Bull Ring. While Max Verstappen was dominant yet again, surviving an early-lap incident with teammate Sergio Pérez to notch yet another win, he was not the only winner on Saturday.
