With the Chiefs set to open their season on Thursday, coach Andy Reid appeared to be less than optimistic on Sunday when asked about star defensive tackle Chris Jones’s status amid his contract holdout.
Reid offered a cryptic response when asked about Jones following the latest speculation surrounding his contract extension talks. The All-Pro pass rusher was again absent from the team’s latest practice with both sides reportedly still “not close on a deal,” according NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
“I don’t know when he’s coming or not coming,” Reid said Sunday, per Rapoport.

The Braves are looking to finish off what would be a very impressive four-game sweep of the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday and they have one of their best pitchers on the mound, Charlie Morton, leading the way. 
The 39-year-old right-hander still has some really filthy stuff in his repertoire. That was on full display in the second inning when he got Dodgers DH David Peralta to swing at a curveball that was easily one of the coolest curveballs thrown this year by anyone in Major League Baseball.

Karns County quarterback Mason Martin left the game against Redbank Valley in the third quarter after game official Mike Vasbiner noticed the player’s visibly shaky status.

Texas Tech and Wyoming squared off in a thrilling nonconference football matchup Saturday night, and Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen were riveted to the action.
Mahomes, the two-time NFL MVP from the Kansas City Chiefs, threw for 11,252 yards in 32 games over three seasons at Texas Tech from 2014 through ’16. Allen, a two-time Pro Bowl selection from the Buffalo Bills, passed for 5,066 yards in 27 games over three seasons at Wyoming from 2015 through ’17.

Randall Cobb received a fine for a blindsiding hit on a Giants defender, and the target on the New York Jets’ back is growing.
Announced Saturday, the NFL decided to fine Cobb $13,889 for his blindside hit on New York Giants safety Bobby McCain in their final preseason showdown. Refs flagged the play for unnecessary roughness. McCain exited the game with a concussion.
Even Cobb’s wife thought the hit could eventually warrant a penalty from the league.
