A tick late this week with preseason work I’m getting through—sorry about that. And here’s the mailbag for you …
From Ronnie (@Tray4o): How come Bill Belichick let go both of Mac Jones’s backups? And who is expected to be the Patriots’ backup QB now?
Ronnie, I will say that I think a lot of people acting shocked, or feigning shock in blog posts, probably don’t pay enough attention to these things.
There were two things at work here.
One is that the Patriots needed roster spots to get players to short-term IR.

New Colorado coach Deion Sanders has a bit of a history with his team’s season-opening opponent, TCU.
Sanders was a finalist to replace Gary Patterson as TCU’s coach two seasons ago, only to be beaten out by eventual hire Sonny Dykes. Dykes took TCU to the CFP national title game last season, and Sanders got the job with Colorado this offseason. But that’s not where the bad blood lies between Sanders and the Horned Frogs.
It instead has everything to do with one of his sons, Buffaloes starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

ESPN released its annual “Top 100 NFL Players” list and, as usual, there are some massive errors. The easiest position to focus on is quarterback. Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott are massively overrated. Kirk Cousins, also as usual, is underrated.

But Griffey wasn’t finished with sports after retiring in 2010. Like former teammate Randy Johnson, Junior took up photography.

The competition for a starting quarterback spot in college football is usually intense. However, it’s not every day that it gets so intense that one player’s dad even says it made him uncomfortable, as was the case for former Michigan signal caller Cade McNamara.
In 2021, McNamara led the Wolverines to their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance, a win over Ohio State during the regular season campaign, and a Big Ten title, the program’s first in almost two decades.
However, that wasn’t enough to keep McNamara from a nasty battle with teammate J.J.

Bradley doesn’t want to be remembered for an altercation from eight years ago with Miguel Angel Jimenez but for what he does on the golf course.
Keegan Bradley was one of the players that felt snubbed out of a captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup. Many thought he would be one of the six that captain Zach Johnson selected. Instead, the first-time captain went another route, controversially adding Justin Thomas to the team.
Bradley expressed his disappointment about not being named to the team.
