The San Diego Padres are just one result away from playoff elimination, despite a top-3 payroll in Major League Baseball.
Owner Peter Seidler committed to roughly $280 million in expenditures this season, including luxury tax penalties, flying past previous spending in San Diego. For all that investment, the Padres are joining the New York Mets as expensive failures.
And after one year near the top of the payroll ranks, things are set to change quickly. Partially due to the team running afoul of MLB regulations.

While the guard never wanted to leave the Lakers, other teams were interested in trying to sign him, including the Spurs. On The Lowe Post with Zach Lowe, Reaves admitted that he briefly considered the Spurs before choosing to return to the Lakers.
Few college football observers would’ve expected one of the biggest newsmakers of 2023 to be Hall of Fame coach Lou Holtz.
However, 19 years after closing the book on his coaching career with South Carolina, Holtz found himself playing a starring role in Notre Dame’s 17–14 loss to Ohio State Saturday evening. On Friday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Holtz questioned the Buckeyes’ toughness under coach Ryan Day; Day responded by furiously rebuking Holtz after his team’s last-second win.

At one point, Smith threw an interception on a pass that was intended for Smith-Njigba in the second quarter, but it’s unclear if this conversation happened before or after the play.
After his first career win, Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs was met with quite the interesting obstacle when he arrived at the team store on Tuesday.
Dobbs, who is starting while Kyler Murray recovers from an ACL injury, went to the Cardinals team store with one goal in mind: to get his family some jerseys with his name on them.
But, when the quarterback started using the custom jersey machine to select a player, his name was noticeably off the list of NFL players to choose from. The option even said to “select from roster,” with Dobbs nowhere to be found.
