MLB umpire Larry Vanover was released from the hospital on Friday, two days after the 67-year-old took a frightening blow to his head from a baseball during a meeting between the Yankees and Guardians, according to the Associated Press.
Vanover had spent the last two days under the care of medical personnel at the Cleveland Clinic, where he was evaluated for a concussion and other potential medical issues. The veteran umpire, who was scheduled to work Thursday, will remain off the field until he’s cleared by MLB personnel, per the AP.
The U.S. men’s national team will kick off the defense of its regional crown with games against Jamaica and Nicaragua, plus the winner of a four-team qualifier, in the group stage of the Concacaf Gold Cup, which will be contested this June and July in 14 U.S. venues and Toronto.
The draw was conducted Friday afternoon at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, the site of the July 16 final. The Americans, led by interim manager Anthony Hudson, will be aiming to repeat as Concacaf champions for the second time. They previously went back-to-back in 2005 and ’07.
Travis Kelce isn’t the first guy to be robbed at a strip club. He may, however, be the first to lose his brother’s gifted car because the spare keys were in the glove compartment.
Just a hunch.
During a new episode of their podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Travis unleashed a wild story about the one time brother Jason gave him a car only for him to lose it 10 hours later.
“My brother, when he got to league, he was working for a car dealership up in Philly — he knew I needed a car,” Travis, in college at the time, told guest Shannon Sharpe.
The NBA has announced that forward Miles Bridges has been suspended 30 games stemming from a domestic violence incident that occurred last year.
Bridges — who last played for the Charlotte Hornets — faced three felony charges after the mother of his two children posted photos of herself with injuries on Instagram. That post also included a medical report that listed her as an “adult victim of physical abuse by male partner; Assault by strangulation, Brain concussion; Closed fracture of nasal bone; Contusion of rib; Multiple bruises; Strain of neck muscle.
MLB implemented a number of substantial rule changes for the 2023 season. Most famous was the new pitch clock, designed to speed up games.
But the league also banned excessive shifting, meaning teams have to put two infielders on either side of second base.
MLB also brought in new, significantly larger bases, which they said would increase player safety and lead to more stolen base attempts.
All of these changes were supposed to, in theory, lead to a faster, more action-oriented and ultimately enjoyable product.
One of college basketball’s most respected voices took to social media on Friday imploring the NCAA to make changes to the sport’s current transfer portal process.
As of today, over 1,100 college basketball players have entered their names into the portal. Many players are looking for lucrative NIL deals, while others are simply in search of programs that offer more playing time.
“The NCAA needs to act and they need to act quickly,” implored ESPN’s Dick Vitale, citing the number of players changing schools. “It’s insanity, it’s wacky what’s going on.
The Pistons are expected to interview former UConn coach Kevin Ollie for their open head coaching vacancy, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports.
Dwane Casey recently announced he was stepping down as Detroit’s head coach to transition to a role in the front office. The 65 year-old Casey spent the past five years with the Pistons, going 121–263 over that span, which included posting the worst record in the league this past season.
Ollie played in the NBA for 11 seasons, bouncing around the league as a backup for 11 different teams. He finished his career averaging 3.8 points and 2.
Free-agent forward Miles Bridges received a 30-game suspension without pay from the NBA on Friday stemming from his arrest and consequent court case, following a domestic violence incident with the mother of his children in June 2022.
The league announced Bridges, who was sentenced to three years probation in November after entering a no-contest plea to a felony domestic violence charge, will miss the first 10 games of the 2023–24 season because he satisfied the first 20 games of the suspension by sitting the entire ’22–23 season.
It’s now been over two months since Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs secured the Super Bowl LVII title over the Eagles, but that doesn’t mean some good old-fashioned taunting can’t still exist.
Especially from a milk company.
That’s right, Shatto Milk Company based out of Kansas City fired a nice shot across the bow at Eagles fans with its limited edition “Eagle Tears” milk. The Eagle Tears bottle is complete with the date of the Super Bowl, 2.12.23, written across the front of the bottle.
