Bryce Harper is back in action after undergoing Tommy John surgery. On Friday, he’ll make his first appearance of the season at Citizens Bank Park and will surely get a massive ovation.
That’s a problem, what with the new pitch clock rules. The Phillies would prefer not to have Harper meet the same fate as the Cubs’ Cody Bellinger upon his return to Los Angles earlier this year.

A standing O for Bellinger and he gets a fucking pitch clock violation for it. Bullshit. pic.twitter.

Rory McIlroy is a hot name in golf lately. Unfortunately, most of it is not due to his play on the course.
McIlroy skipped the RBC Heritage earlier this season because he needed a “mental health break.” Those are all the rage with millennials, but most young people who use a “mental health day” to get out of work don’t lose $3 million.

The prevailing —no, overpowering—emotions at Churchill Downs during Kentucky Derby week are joy and excitement. They permeate the morning training hours, then percolate through the grandstand during the afternoon races.
But this year there is an undercurrent of tension, perhaps even dread. Unsettling things keep happening to racehorses, too jarring and numerous and awful to be swept aside by pageantry.
There were four well-publicized deaths in less than a week’s time, three during or after a race and one in training.

Last weekend, Hamilton talked to ESPN about this. He also pointed to two athletes who have been able to compete at a high level for a long time: Tom Brady and LeBron James.
“I don’t plan on stopping any time soon,” the 38-year-old said.

Baseball fans across the country love to bust out the boo birds whenever a player linked to the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal comes to town. Apparently, players on other teams haven’t forgotten about it either.
White Sox pitcher Keynan Middleton was candid about his feelings on the matter after striking out Twins shortstop Carlos Correa on Wednesday night, telling reporters after the game, “I don’t like him, so it was kind of cool. I like that. I enjoyed that a lot. … I mean, he’s a cheater.
