With top free agents off the market, it’s time for the hot stove to seek alternative fuel in the form of trades, and we got an interesting one on Friday. The Marlins are sending pitcher Pablo López (plus a pair of prospects) to the Twins in exchange for reigning batting champ Luis Arraez. It’s the first time a player has been traded the winter after winning the batting title since Rod Carew in 1978.

The 29-year-old forward was playing the best basketball of his career prior to his injury in December.

Lakers forward Anthony Davis is nearing his return to the lineup from the stress injury in his right foot that has sidelined him since mid-December, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Per Wojnarowski’s report, Davis has continued to make “pain-free progress” on his foot, and there’s optimism around the team that he could make his return to the lineup by late next week.

It seems that longevity gets overlooked when it comes to the Hall of Fame. Plenty of guys who play for years past their peaks are dismissively referred to as compilers, especially if their best years were less impressive than those of players with high peaks but shorter careers. That is the case for many of the players getting votes in this year’s BBWAA Hall of Fame election.
