Early favorite Forte has been scratched from the 2023 Kentucky Derby
According to multiple reports Forte, the morning-line favorite at the 2023 Kentucky Derby, has been scratched from the field.
Forte, winner of four-straight races, opened as the 3-1 favorite earlier this week. Those odds moved to 4-1 on Saturday morning, ahead of this news. Forte was the favorite for a reason, with wins in six of seven races, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Florida Derby.

Down 2-0 to the Nuggets, Devin Booker carried the Suns to a victory in Game 3 with 47 points on 20-of-25 shooting. Yet, Phoenix’s win was partly overshadowed by the team’s decision to bench DeAndre Ayton, which led to Ayton not speaking with the media after the game.

Angel of Empire and Tapit Trice are the two favorites to win the 149th annual Kentucky Derby after prior favorite Forte was scratched from the field merely 10 hours before Saturday’s race.
Both horses have 9–2 odds of winning the “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports.” The change in the odds comes after Forte became the fifth horse to be eliminated from the field in Saturday’s race. Forte entered the day at 7–2 odds to win.
However, following a one-mile sprint on Saturday morning, trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Mike Repole convened for a meeting with state veterinarian Nate Smith.
