The legend of Shohei Ohtani grew even more Wednesday night when the Angels star struck out 13 Cardinals batters in just five innings of work.
That was a career-high for the coolest guy in baseball who can do it all. If you need more proof of that just look at what he did in the ninth inning—Ohtani doubled and scored the Angels’ final run in a three-run rally that gave Los Angeles a 6–4 win.
But let’s get back to his work on the mound. His last three strikeouts all came in the fifth inning and his final one of the night was an absolute beauty.

It’s always fun when a position player has to come in and pitch. It could go really well for the guy or it could be a laughable disaster.
Well, there were laughs at the end of Marlins catcher Jacob Stallings‘s inning of work Wednesday night against the Braves—but those chuckles by Ronald Acuna Jr. were out of disbelief after Stallings struck him out looking with a beautiful pitch.
Stallings, who pitched the eighth inning of a 14–6 game, fired an 85-mph heater that painted the bottom of the strike zone and ended the inning.

Before Kirk Cousins played his senior season at Holland Christian School in Holland, Michigan he had no college scholarship offers. And by the time he finished that final prep season, he still had no offers.
That prepared him for the situation he’s in with the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 — which could be his final season with the team.
The Vikings, you see, understand Cousins is entering the final year of his contract. And with their starting quarterback pushing 35-years-old before the regular season begins, the club is comfortable letting things play out.

With most star quarterbacks residing in the AFC, many see the NFC as a two-team race between the Eagles and 49ers. But it’s rarely that predictable.
The NFL draft allows teams to quickly retool with immediate impact players, an attempt to create parity in the league as some franchises land cornerstone pieces such as wide receiver Justin Jefferson or edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Only time will tell which draft picks will be just as good as those aforementioned All-Pro players, but the results appear promising for some teams, especially the one in the Pacific Northwest.

Sometime after 4:30 p.m. on the afternoon of May 5, 1973, groom Eddie Sweat unlatched the front of Stall 21 in Barn 42 at Churchill Downs. Out came Secretariat.
The strapping chestnut colt likely already knew it was a race day. He had been fed less than his usual prodigious quantity of oats—Big Red had a Ruthian appetite—and the hay bundle tied up outside the stall door for snacking had been taken away. Secretariat was walked a few times around the Barn 42 shed row under the nervous gaze of trainer Lucien Laurin, then led away from the barn area to the backstretch of the Louisville, Ky.

Happy Patrick Corbin Day, bettors!
Games have gone over their listed total in five of six games Nationals pitcher Corbin has started this year.
The funny thing is, Corbin has actually been pretty solid of late after starting the season with an ERA of over eight. He’s only allowed five earned runs in his last 16⅔ innings pitched, but the bullpen and his own team have still helped push run totals over.
Corbin’s ERA for the season is now 5.75, though Statcast says his xERA is 6.92. My guess is we can still expect the lefty to contribute his share to the run total.

With the NFL draft and free agency completed, many questions have been answered regarding depth charts across the league.
The calendar has turned to May, and Desmond Ridder and Sam Howell remain QB1 for the Falcons and Commanders, respectively. But did those teams address glaring holes on the roster to assist their inexperienced quarterbacks?
Also, did teams hear the outcries from their respective fan bases to fill a certain need through the draft or free agency? Titans brass probably did, but that didn’t force them to draft a wide receiver early.
