North Carolina could not have asked for a better start to Game 1 of its Super Regional series against visiting Southern California. The Tar Heels loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning, and while Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Mason Edwards escaped that jam, he got into trouble again in the second, giving up a pair of runs.

Riley Dean scored 18 points on his Bradford Bulls debut as they beat York Knights in a meeting of two newly promoted teams.
The 24-year-old has had a nomadic career since making his Super League debut for Warrington Wolves in 2019, and signed for the Bulls last month until the end of the season.

Josh Smith scored two second-half tries as Warrington struggled past Hull FC to move level on points with Leeds at the top of Super League.
Wire were a long way from their best and trailed 4-0 at half-time after Harvey Barron’s early try for the visitors.

Leigh continued their march up the Super League table with a fifth victory in six games as Adam Cook’s gift try 14 minutes from time sank Castleford.
The Tigers were pressing hard having fought back to within four points through a second-half try from George Lawler.
But a fumble from Daejarn Asi allowed Cook, who also kicked four goals, a free run in from 40 metres out to put the game out of reach.
Former Northern Ireland captain Marissa Callaghan said that Turkey striker Busem Seker “had to be sent off” after she controversially handled the ball before later scoring the winner during their 2-1 victory over NI.
Michael McArdle’s side were trailing 1-0 in the closing stages of a quiet first half in Istanbul when the game sparked to life as Seker handled Fi Morgan’s goal-bound effort on the line.

Former Scotland striker James McFadden expects Steve Clarke to take an attacking approach during tomorrow’s final World Cup warm-up match against Bolivia.
