Javier Mendez has been by Cain Velasquez’s side through pretty much every life scenario, and that was no different during the former UFC heavyweight champion’s recent legal battle with charges including attempted murder.
Velasquez was sentenced March 24 to five years in prison minus time served after he shot at Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting Velasquez’s son at a daycare. Velasquez struck the man’s stepfather resulting in injury.

Cowboys fans have been obsessing for months- and will continue to for another three weeks- over who the team should select with the 12th overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft. The roster needs are certainly plenty: running back, wide receiver, cornerback, offensive line, even defensive line, to name just the biggies.
Grabbing an elite talent in the first half of the first round is indeed a tantalizing notion, a silver lining that makes the previous year’s disappointing 7-10 finish a little easier to stomach.

Inter Milan take on Udinese in Serie A this evening.
The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team took down the NC State Wolfpack, 80-73, on Friday to punch a ticket to its third-consecutive Elite Eight. But for LSU alumna Angel Reese, this victory was extra sweet.
That’s because Reese has a personal vendetta against NC State head coach Wes Moore.
Back in February, Moore posed for a photo with a Wolfpack fan holding a sign that read, “Angel Reese Stinks.” The picture was taken before a game between NC State and Notre Dame — so it’s unclear why Reese was catching strays.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — There might not be a better track for Ryan Blaney to snap his recent skid than Martinsville Speedway.
Blaney enters today’s having failed to finish the last three races — the first time in his career he’s had such a streak. He had engine failures at Phoenix and Homestead and wrecked at Las Vegas.
Blaney won last fall’s playoff race at Martinsville to secure a spot in the championship race. He’s won two of the last three races at Martinsville and has finished no worse than seventh in his last six starts at this historic half-mile track.
LSU women’s basketball is hoping to punch a ticket to the Final Four on Sunday. The Tigers are set to face No. 1 seed UCLA in the Elite Eight.
For LSU head coach Kim Mulkey and the Tigers, this is their third straight Elite Eight appearance. LSU won the national championship in 2023 before falling to Iowa in the Elite Eight in 2024.
This is LSU’s second straight year seeing UCLA in the NCAA Tournament. Last year, LSU notched a 78-69 vs. the Bruins in the Sweet 16. Flau’Jae Johnson led the way for the Tigers with 24 points in that one, while Aneesah Morrow added 17 points.
The 49ers are surely wishing they’d traded receiver Brandon Aiyuk when they had the chance.
They could have. It was happening. Aiyuk was about to be a Steeler. Then, he expressed a willingness to accept the 49ers’ best offer on a long-term deal, and coach Kyle Shanahan literally ran upstairs to keep the trade from going through.
The end result was a contract that now ties the 49ers’ hands. No other team will be taking on the balance of the deal, given Aiyuk’s injury.
Earlier today, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com pointed out that, once the 49ers pay Aiyuk a $22.
The 2025 Masters will mark Angel Cabrera’s 21st appearance in the year’s first major championship, but his first since 2019 after he was convicted of domestic assault and intimidation of two of his former partners.
Cabrera, who won the 2009 Masters in a playoff over Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell, spent 30 months in jail in both Argentina and Brazil before being released in August 2023. The Argentinian was suspended by the PGA Tour following his conviction in 2021, but reinstated after being released from jail.
The Chicago Bears have been offseason darlings following their slew of moves that included the hiring of new head coach Ben Johnson along with some big-time moves in free agency. But the same can’t be said for their nemesis: Former Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers, who spent most of his career in Green Bay and most recently with the New York Jets, is a free agent this offseason and is taking his time in picking his next team. That is, if he decides to continue on. Most teams around the NFL either have their quarterback cemented or a quarterback plan in place.
