Reaching the College Football Playoff is obviously the ultimate prize for most big programs across the sport. There are immense incentives and benefits for getting into the field. Along with financial benefits, it’s a boost to recruiting and program prestige. Not to mention that in any tournament format, there’s an element of randomness and luck that could lead to winning a championship. 
All these factors, and more, make the lobbying for a playoff spot among programs and coaches a predictable, and understandable, part of late-season discussions.

California is trying to turn to a former Bears football player to replace Justin Wilcox.
Cal is in negotiations with Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi to make him the program’s next head coach, according to The Athletic. Specifics of that deal, or when it will be finalized, are not yet known.

Brunswick (Ga.) athletic director Steve Watersreleased a statement through the team’s Touchdown Club regarding a potential revised resolution with the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) for their role in the bench clearing brawl with Gainesville in a Class AAAAA playoff game.
The GHSA last week had announced that it would be suspending 41 Brunswick players, fining the school $5,000 and barring the Pirates from participating in the 2026 state playoffs.

La Salle basketball head coach Darris Nichols was hired in March. His associate head coach is his older brother Shane.
“He doesn’t act like a boss,” Shane said. “He bounces off ideas, he listens, and we work together.”
Growing up in Northern Virginia, the brothers were always around the game of basketball. Their dad was a former college basketball player, so it was in their blood.
“Just seeing [Shane’s] work ethic, learning from him and my dad, helped me become a better player,” Darris reflected.

It’s the California Golden Bears who are hiring Lupoi after parting ways with long-time head coach Justin Wilcox earlier this month. Lupoi, a California alum, was among the top candidates for the job, and the two sides moved quickly in getting a deal done.
